I don't think it will clash, but it will be a lot of cherry, and will be a darker look, especially with black countertops and depending on how much light you have coming in. And you might look at what a natural cherry cabinet looks like after IT darkens. Remember that you are probably comparing two different cherries... American Cherry and Brazilian Cherry, that could have very contrasting colors. Just looking at my cherry floor, you can see the variations in color. Most cabinets I would think would not be made of Brazilian cherry, but of more general Cherry wood species. As far as my finish, I could've told you that back in 2004 when it was done, but I can't remember now if it's oil or water. I know i have 5 coats on there, 4 glossy and the last one satin, so the floor doesn't have a mirror-like shine to it.

Since you do not want extremely dark floors, I would not stain the floors since the yellow orange color will dramatically get darker and richer and so will all the colors on the floor. I feel the floor will be richer and more beautiful and dark enough. Now if you told us you wanted very dark floors, then I would say stain them and they may get even darker. It is whatever you find beautiful. I really love the colors of Brazilian Cherry and that is why despite the darkening and color change under my furniture, it is what I have been wanting. I can't help you with finishing the floor since I never finished a floor before but I like semi-gloss and satin finishes on darker floors since high gloss on dark wood seems to show every drop of dust but that is just my opinion. Semi-gloss is my favorite finish on any hardwood floor.

I love the color on the smallest door because it gives some contrast between the floor and cabs, and will also provide a bridge between dark floor and light trim so THAT contrast will not seem so stark. BTW, I love the concept of woods not all being match-y match-y but instead complementing each other and provide tone and depth. Can't wait to see it when it is all done!

Each floor has a slightly different sanding regimen depending on how smooth it is, what the old finish is and what color is desired. Presumably you hired someone that knows what they're doing. Why would an experienced, competent professional want to do a job for someone who's going to elicit advice from strangers on the internet before the job even starts, then tell them what to do? Instead, you should ask him what his procedures are then ask questions if you think something isn't right. I would recommend seeing a decent sized sample with stain and at least one coat of finish, before staining the entire floor. One tip for reducing red is to apply two coats of wood bleach before staining (yes, even with ebony stain).
