Window Treatments for Craftsman Windows
We are finishing up an addition and total remodel of our first floor. We have gone with a Craftsman theme with the intent of making our 15 year old home look like it is 100 years old. We love our double-hung windows with tall fractional grills. I am needing to decide on window treatments primarily for the bedrooms. They must be top down because we live with the tops down on our blinds 24 hours a day 360 days of the year (only closed on the few most extreme weather days each year). We fortunately have 2x6 walls so the window treatments can be hung within the window to allow the trim to be fully exposed. I am leaning towards some of the Hunter Douglas Roman Shades with the plan to have the top down sit at the level of the latches, but I am looking for any recommendation or suggestions.

Comments (9)I think that you are slightly misguided handymantom. The XL edge (stainless steel) is indeed a solid choice, however composite spacers such as super spacer and the like are an UPGRADE, not a downgrade. Either way, your post is much like a typical of window salesmen in that it focuses on one specific aspect, rather than looking at the performance of the product as a whole. The independently tested thermal and structural performance ratings are truly a sum of those parts, so if you would like to discuss the quality and/or performance of a given product, u-value, air infiltration, design pressure, etc would be the way to do so. :)...See Morewindow treatment for wide window
Comments (6)Last month I ordered blinds from Lowes. Some of my windows are 106" wide by 70" tall. Allen and Roth was able to do that span with one shade, top down/bottom up with continuous loop cords, even though online their spec sheet states 96" as their max width. There is a large Japanese maple near the window so we don't get a ton of light there. I have the floor lamps, two table lamps and a light on the ceiling that isn't in the picture to make sure the room gets enough light. We actually use this room as a music room.
