arizonarose - wait! Don't call in a painter just yet. Generally builders do not use ceiling paint. They use regular paint on the ceiling. Go to Home Depot or Lowes, buy a disposable paint brush for a dollar, and ask them for a stir stick or two (they are free). Assuming your ceiling is white, try covering over one of the spots with any white paint they left behind. Truly, it is just a matter of stirring the paint, dipping the brush in, and running the brush over the spot. Then check it after it dries. If they didn't leave you any white paint, go to a paint store that carries the brand that you painter left behind - Duron, Sherwin Williams, whatever. Ask them what shade of white the contractors usually buy. In my area, they tend to use the color "Shell White" which many companies have but it varies in shade slightly from paint company to paint company. Sometimes they call it Builder White.

Wood bead board is the typical material in our area. Stained is nice, painted robin's egg blue is better. If I got aluminum I'd paint it blue. Don't imagine the material per se makes much difference.

I am installing treated pine deck boards on our covered porch, columns (for railings) wrapped in cedar. and tongue and groove (I assume non-treated) as my porch ceiling. I know they won't look exact, but any suggestions on a semi-transparent stain that will tie them all together? Research tells me Penofin, Readyseal and TWP are good options. Any real world experience?

Thanks, Oly. Apparently I need reading comprehension lessons. ;) Unfortunately, it is unlikely you can just clean the mold off since it has penetrated the ceiling drywall from the other side. My guess is you will have to cut out that portion of the ceiling and replace. If you are going to try to clean it, you need to use a bleach solution to kill the mold spores. But you can't clean it well enough to get all the mold out, and it will re-appear.
