Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to pass along your compliments to my hubby. He really is a talented guy. I'm continually impressed by the things he is able to do. He's the type who is good at whatever he tries. In the 18 years I've known him, I've seen him do welding, auto mechanics, appliance repair, computer programming, very complicated plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and electronics (he built the circuit board that runs the fans in the media center), woodworking of all kinds, tree cutting, landscaping, small engine repair, flooring, chain link fence installation, masonry, earthmoving/excavating, stock market trading and other investing, brewing and winemaking, and on and on. About the only thing he can't do is cook. (Thank goodness, or he'd have no "use" for me!) We used the bottom to our Gun cabinet for the new flat screen TV we bought a couple of years ago. Last TV literally blew up smoke and all. We had trouble getting it out of the house to the yard it was so heavy and we were afraid to leave in in the house sitting there smoking. Sheese. The gun cabinet was this two piece monster that took over any room it was in. Being split apart it is so much better now. I really should get proper legs for the top part now it does not have a base on it. It will look better but I have not gotten that far yet. Do we call 2 by 6's tacky?? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS DH made a make shift stand to set the TV on so there is room for the dish control box. We do not have any other TV stuff.I did some goofy mosaic on it and call it good.The stand could have been taller if we needed more room for TV stuff. Here's what the area looks like now. I kept the angle for the TV to avoid ceiling and floor repair. After priming the new drywall, I liked the white walls, so I painted the family room white. The TV is 82". I'd like to add a faux beam to the top of the opening someday in the future. The framing and drywall was done by Sullivan Builders, Canyon Lake, TX.
