Your real name may be in visible in the address bar

Several months ago someone referred to me by my real name in a post, which I have never posted here. I found out she took it from the address bar to my profile. I had joined Houzz before we merged with them, and my user name was my real name, taken from my registration I assume. I didn't know it was visible but I didn't post on Houzz so no one was looking at my profile. Then GW merged with Houzz. My Houzz user name, my real name, was visible in the address bar here on the merged GW/Houzz for over two years until that person addressed me by my real name.

I've randomly looked at other profiles and have seen a few where their real name is in the address bar but they've selected a different display name. I assume, like me, they have no idea their real name is being shown on their profile page in the address bar.

If you go to your profile and see your real name in the address bar at the top of the page, you'll want to edit it. Go to Your Houzz>Edit Profile and Settings>Account Information>User Name. Change your real name to your GW screen name. It is confusing because under Profile Information it says First Name (publicly displayed) but what I didn't realize was that the address bar also publicly displays your user name.

Before I changed mine, it said:

https://www.houzz.com/user/janedoe (with my real first and last names)

I then edited it in my settings to read:

https://www.houzz.com/user/mayflowers1
