Rembrandt Lamp Co.
Comments (78)Thanks for the history C Markoff! My grandmother Alfrie Dixon was the inventor of the metal lampshade sold by Remington. I know my mother told me about her moving to Chicago to start up a lampshade factory and how people were lined up around several city blocks for jobs. It would have been early 30s. I'm thinking that would have been for Rembrandt as her metal shades were featured on their lamps. I can place her there in 1933 as a relative was hired and died of pneumonia in Chicago that year. My mom, Esther Dixon Siebenmark, went to the art Institute, worked at the Merchandise Mart and they lived at the Allerton I believe. Anyway I was able to buy a couple of Rembrandt metal shades this year and one of them has my grandmother's patent number engraved on it. I am saving all your news articles for my scrapbook. Thank you again....See MoreHouzz so far...
Comments (134)Harry - All's forgiven. You've always been one of my favorite curmudgeons. ;) Just a note to everyone about the worry about rights and ownership of content. Houzz's terms of use is really no different than most websites -- it's pretty standard boilerplate language. GardenWeb's terms were nearly identical. Basically, it means that you will always own your photos, but if you post them on the site, Houzz has the right to use them. Some of you might remember a similar brouhaha when NBC acquired GW. I know that it sounds a bit scary, but it really isn't. GardenWeb would feature photos on Facebook or in FAQs or on the side rail of the site. That eye candy is what hooks people! ;) Also, search engines - like Google - are pretty efficient. They have robots that crawl sites and index information constantly and that's why you will see your photos out there so quickly. GardenWebbers have always been so generous in sharing your knowledge and photos and I hope that you'll continue to help others in this way....See MoreKitchen cabinets - paint chipping
Comments (49)UltraCraft - your company name is on this thread. You have been given an opportunity here to respond to a situation involving your product and one of your chosen dealers. This incident could show potential customers why they should buy your product instead of one from another of the multitude of cabinet companies in the marketplace. Why do you have a customer service team? Should it be called dealer services instead? Although your company didn't directly create this problem, it is still your name being dragged through the mud. You are indirectly responsible as the source of the product and may wish to consider your company's image as you reply to dissatisfied customers. It's not the installing dealer's name stamped on the inside of the cabinets, it is yours....See MoreHow do I steer my husband away from cream colored cabinets?
Comments (125)I'm glad you're finding things you like, Lauren Confair. And as critical as layout is (the thing that pushed me over the edge into ripping out our old kitchen was that we couldn't open the pull-out trash and the dishwasher at the same time, because they were on adjoining ends of a corner), don't let anyone admonish you not to think about color or style yet, because when you're researching contractors and writing big checks and emptying out storage and living through weeks of dust and noise and inconvenience, it's not the thought of a handy prep space and sensible work triangle that will pull you through, it's the vision of soaring cabinets, shiny new countertops, and a gorgeous result. BOTH are important....See Moregeorgect
