Summer Sale Roses Unlimited
Comments (28)Mine arrived Wednesday p.m. Unpacking was tricky given elaborate packaging and fading light, but that packaging got 4 nice-sized roses to me without any damage, so no complaints. I received 3 Teas ('Souvenir de Victor Hugo', 'Enchantress' and 'Maman Cochet'' and 1 Noisette: 'Mount Vernon Purple Noisette' AKA 'Mrs Woods Lavender-Pink Noisette'. All are good-looking plants, but I am especially captivated by 'Enchantress' with her neat habit and gorgeous foliage. I potted them up in 3-gallon pots the next morning- here's a photo of them just after that, but before some staking was added to stabilize them- 'Enchantress' really didn't need staking, but the other three were a bit wobbly in their pots... An early-morning rain was a nice welcome, and so the photo's a bit glarey- the large pot in the back has a fig tree in it (and a couple of volunteer squashlings)....See MoreRoses Unlimited 2015 Sale
Comments (37)I had to restrain myself. I just thought about the fifteen roses sitting in water that I have to pot up to go with the other 14 I got from Breck's, plus the other 25 that have been in pots since 2009! I was tempted, but I forgot my check book and only have the cash for the ones I had ordered! Actually had to get it from my DH! Good thing he was with me....See MoreRose Unlimited having sale
Comments (37)Puttering & pondering led to another 6 roses joining the party soon to be arriving from RU. Happened upon a sheaf of papers (with notes & diagrams!) drawn up in a flush of Rose Fever during the long night depths of Winter. (The imaginary beauty of gardens rich with bloom becomes so vivid for me at that time of year when deprivation from daily garden wonders becomes most acute). Found my January self reminding my June self to Follow the Plan. Usually tell my dear husband "of course there's a plan", but admit to you I suffer from periodic amnesia regarding the specifics & tend to be easily distracted once garden centers & planting season open. Good thing I left myself a record of creative concentration to snap perspective back in focus! So pairs of Soul Sisters & Summer Suns added according to Plan. Also from those deliberations, Heirloom's Louise Clements arrived early in May from a sale. Transplanted to a 3-gallon pot, she's doubled in size to a graceful 2.5 x 2.5'. Pinched off all but one identifying bud & she's already swelling a dozen more, the first of which opened last week. From the sale list, chose her twin & another long time favorite, Sunsprite. "Double your pleasure double your fun!" Definitely seeing double this year. That tallies up to 20 in all, evenly divided between regular & sale prices. Largest order from one source at one time in many years, although it did evolve over several months. Here's hoping our selections each & all arrive safely & thrive in our gardens! Comments (144)Judith: Pumice is porous volcanic rocks with neutral pH, versus red and black lava rock at high pH over 9. Pumice comes in smaller particles, and used for growing succulents with its fast drainage. Pumice is very expensive at over $25 for 3 gallons, versus I can get a 40 lb. of lava rock for $6 at Menards store. Inviting everyone to continue the discussion on soil & fertilizer & own roots in below new link, since this thread is getting too long: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6252246/tips-for-own-root-vs-grafted-roses-in-pots-longagoroses-bands#n=11...See MoreLilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca
