Runners vs Round vs Rectangle

we have wood floors in the front entrance area of our home. What is the right way to use runners. The pictures show what I am thinking. Is this too much? The runners will come to a "T". Are runners just an accent? Should I make them shorter so you can see the wood floors? Also, if I run them in a T, what do I do at the front door? Another runner, a round, rectangle, or just your basic sized mat at the door. NOTE: We are changing out the fixtures and stair rail. The wood floors will be refinished as well. A work in progress....
