Help me decide wall colors to our new home

Our new home has huge open area(rectangular) that has living, dining and kitchen all in one place. Kitchen is separated by a pony wall. We are thinking of putting same wall color for hallway, living, dining and Kitchen.

I and my husband like the living to look bright and spacious. We are planning on getting few samples this weekend but have no idea on where to start and what to pick. Experts, please suggest us some wall colors that will give the look we want. Thanks

Note - the home has dark cherry cabinets and the same color hardwood floors.

We bought 12x12 travertine sheets from Home Depot on sale and my husband installed (his first tile job). I sealed the tiles. Laying out was the hard part to make sure end pieces at corners looked right. Other than that the actual putting the tiles in place was fairly easy.

Allie the cost is right at 135/sqft. Not inclusive of the lot. High end finishes planned for the inside. White oak wide plank floors. 7". High end appliances Kohler farmhouse sink, large tile shower etc.....There will be some brick out front made to resemble a brick foundation not the 4 foot brick you see on a lot of homes. The siding alone was about 30k install included :( It is DiamondKote LP SmartSide. It does look soooo much better than vinyl though which is the norm around here in about 98% of new homes. The front and back porches, as well as the eyebrow, will be galvalume metal. Had to wait for siding to be done to install. cpartist- Yes they are ordered and finalized,. The cabinets are white Haas inset in the kitchen with full overlay gray stained island. White/gray full overlay elsewhere depending on the room. Cambria Ella quartz also.

White...... as your trim, or if LUTRON/rocker type, wall color matches. No please, to other finishes, they are not a design feature, to second Patricia above. Personally I would stick with trim white, as paint colors tend to change. Remember......a white toggle or receptacle glaring from within a painted/ plate? Not so great : )

Agree with Miss CP... Don't bother with the upgrade. Our production home will be finished soon (week, week and a half), and we chose one of the "standard" paints. Sooooo glad we didn't upgrade to a different color, because the builder used cheap, chalky, watered-down flat paint for EVERY wall and ceiling (even in bathrooms and the kitchen, argh)... I would have hated to upgrade the color, for them to use that God-awful excuse for flat paint, and still be stuck repainting the whole dang house.

I'm not an architect or a designer ....just a lowly poster but something about the stone on the bottom and the weightiness. I could be totally off. Maybe one of the architects here or designers will weigh in on the columns. i chose my stone first. Then I chose my siding color to complement the stone. But, I had no choice as we had to have the stone months before the house project started. I would have done it the same way ...stone first.

@studio10001, we have recently purchased off white leather sofa set and ottoman( Have an infant). Currently have black dining room set but I am soon going to replace that. Haven't decided on draperies yet. We like simple and beautiful look. Personally like neutral colors.

Ideally the paint colour is chosen to support those decisions. If you are planning on carpet,too, I suggest picking both it and the drapes first to establish your palette, and choosing a light neutral that compliments both for the walls. Paint sample should then be tested against the wall through the course of a day or two to see if it works well with the changing light in the room. Happy shopping!

Looks like you have good natural light source. Love the Cherry.

Colors:
Wedding Cake C2-384 bring in the warmth not an acid yellow well balanced off white
Blackened 2011 F&B for the gray thing teams up well with cherry without being too cool

I would consider looking at something like BM, River Gorge Gray for the walls and BM, Gray owl for the ceiling. I don't think I would paint any color that has pinkish undertones. The neutral greige colors would keep it from looking to dark and be easily adaptable to many furnishings/ accessories added for pops of color.

Here are some paint colors that coordinate from Benjamin Moore, shelburne buff being the main one; a gorgeous wallpaper for your foyer; black and brown throw cushions on your sofa.

Hmm paint colors did not copy let me try again; think you could really use some white crown molding to enhance the contrast with the wall paint color, whatever one you decide on.

Can you redo the backsplash? Too dark and cabinets look dressy/elegant, backsplash kinda inexpensive.

Like ;rosie' backsplash isn't real complimentary to the cabinets but, can work better if the right wall color enhances the tile.

I don't remember the name of the color but it is a cream colored travertine. It has some yellow in it. I think you can go cream -warm/yellow or cream -cool/gray.

It was a clearance item. We had to go to about five Home Depots to get enough. Some of the broken sheets were $1 apiece. We bought as many of these as we could so we could replace tiles on the sheets that we didn't like. Since we were buying from different lots you have to make sure your colors are consistent from sheet to sheet...if you know what I mean. You don't want part of the backsplash cream / yellow and another section cream / white. So you have to mix up the sheets.

If you buy from the same lot you won't have this issue.

Thanks for the compliment on our kitchen.

I like greens and greys. I will try to find some rooms with colors I like. The problem with color is that it is a product of reflected light and the same paint can look entirely different in two rooms depending on the type of light and the colors of things around it.

Colors are tricky.

My husband is pretty handy. If you want to try a DIY backsplash look at youtube videos and read up on the subject. You would also have to prepare the wall after you remove the old tile.

The rug is Feizy - Natasha Black/Beige. Their website says discontinued. But they may still be selling it. I like it because I have been wiping up spills and vacuuming it and it seems to look good as new.

We haven't finished the range hood yet. The house was partially finished when we bought it including the kitchen so we did notice out the cabinets, countertops, fixtures.

Congrats on your new home! I think the neutral colors are great for this space. I would suggest adding canvas wall art that is easy to put up (and take down) if you aren't ready to commit to one theme or color. Good luck! http://www.lot26.com/s/Canvas-Wall-Hangings

Something like this is nice facing away from your kitchen and brings in the neutral colors with a pop of animal print. The warm toned beige wall paint is more cheerful to live with day after day than gray and the white moldings crisp up the room.

Sure! it is called Biscuit Blush from Valspar Paints. It almost looks white on the chip, until you put pure white furniture and trim with it for contrast.
