I'm planning to install tile for the kitchen and it will run into my LR rug (it will be replaced with HW too). The tile guy told me last night to buy a "T mold" that is 5/16 for the joining seam. It is shaped like a backwards "J" ____ HW> \______ He told me to hammer down the bottom with nails and fit the tile in the 5/16 space. Hoepfully Bill V will see your post and clarify what to do : )

I have a 50's ranch and about the only thing i would change is the layout of the kitchen.I'd like to have a big window in the kitchen with the sink below it,and have the kitchen be one big room instead of kitchen and dinette area.We do have a formal DR though. I don't like the popcorn ceilings either,but like the op said,that's an easy fix. I have and will take shower curtains over shower doors any time,hate the doors,and my shower curtains don't cling.They have magnets on the liner,and the outer curtain is soft and flowy,but not into the tub. I'm so glad when we got this house,that we got a ranch and not a 2 story,they're (2 story or more) aare the pits as we age. I need and have garden space also,so you may want to consider the yard size. We have 1 bathroom also and it's served us well all these 46 years with the 4 kids and others. Don't get wrapped up in the unecessary things,look for good bones,and keep in mind what it is you want,cosmetics VS needs etc. Good luck Kathi

housequester- So sorry the comment isn't showing. Not sure what is happening with the forum. Below is our suggestion. Maybe bring a bit more warmth to the fireplace stone and carpet. I've also given some links for inpspiration **these are not photos of our work** just wanted to give that disclaimer. :) I really like the warmth tones in the exterior stone which will then play on the warmth from the LVP once that front door opens. I get the design concept and really like the continuity. However, what is difficult to marry are the warm tones and the cool tones of the stone for the fireplace and carpet. My suggestion would be to find a fireplace stone with a bit more warmth tone to it. Maybe a 'greige' where it will have a warm beige undertone and you can pick a carpet to bring it all together. IMO oil rubbed bronze and gray don't look good together. Nor ORB with brushed nickel or chrome. But if you want a dark metal somewhere (such as the lights, or metal on wooden shelves), then maybe use matte black. I think that looks good with chrome. We put a stained alder linen cabinet and some stained shelves in our white and gray bathroom and I like it. We have wood floors, but lighter than your floors. On the white vanity there are chrome pulls, knobs, faucets, we have chrome shower fixtures; but on the stained cabinet there are matte black knobs and pulls, and the light has black as the metal finish. If you want wood somewhere you can do that with a vanity tray, your waste bin, framed art or a framed mirror. I presume there will be a shower curtain, so you won't see the shower fixture anyway. I used SW "crushed ice" as my light gray wall paint because all the other grays were too dark for the space. Crushed ice is in their white collection, but it worked.
