I'm certainly no expert on Maxies, but since no one else has answered your query, I'll try to help. Does the broken psb have roots attached to it? My tenuifolia tends to grow upright, psb on top of the last one. If it does have several good long(2-3")roots. You could finish removing it and pot it up. That said, this is not the best time of year to be starting a new plant. If it's not wilting/shriveling, I'd be more inclined to watching it and perhaps misting to keep any aerial roots green. Then it a few months it would have a better chance of taking off and making another new growth. A transplant of just one growth has a difficult time getting started. Like other orchids, there's a much better chance of success if there are multiple growths that can be removed to make a new plant. Good luck with your tenuifolia. Sheila :)

Why not add to your original post where there were two answers? (and some questions). Where are you in the USA? What is the plant mounted on? For what it is worth, Sydney Australia. Most of the plants i've seen are mounted on tree-fern and are bush-house subjects. Average temperature Winter 7 to 17C Daily range Summer 17 to 27C Daily range Extremes: Low 2C High 44C Plant with bloom Plant on tree-fern mount, sorry about the quality. Plant is grown at the shaded end of this shadehouse. Dendrobium nobile conditions. Not my setup, but i cannot imagine the plant doing much during winter.

Pic. showing old plant on tree-fern mount, maybe the best way to grow this species orchid. As for repotting time, do not know, depends on your growing conditions and where you are. If in doubt, perhaps in spring.

Sorry to say that the plant is not mine, belongs to a member of the local orchid Society. Generally i think the mounting thing is overdone but some orchids grow best mounted, particularly if the growing habit is upwards. The owner has it growing at the cooler end of her bush-house, the photo taken against the brick wall was just to get (a not great) photo. Here is a better photo of an individual flower.
