We went with the dimmable LED lights from Environmental Lights called MaxLite. They have both warm white (2700) and daylight white (5000) and three choices in how many lights per strip. We chose the warm in the 33 LEDs per one foot strip. I'm very pleased and looking forward to not worrying about burning up watts and changing bulbs. The heat generated was also a concern for me. We haven't moved back into the house yet so have not lived with them but I think we made a good choice. They also sell the LED strips that require drivers which (I think) are like transformers. The company gave us amazingly quick service, including asking the Fed Ex guy to wait while they opened a box of connectors being delivered, added some to our box, taped it up, and back out the door with the Fed Ex guy. The kitchen counter receptacles are on a pair of 20 amp 'small appliance' circuits. You can plug in all the portable appliances you want, and themn when the breaker trips when the toaster comes on you can unplug them. They are portable and thus considered temporary. A permanently installed light (even if word and plug connected) is no longer a portable device. It is about making sure the circuits do not get loaded down with permanent items that will then cause overloads when the typical high power items are used.

We found it helpful when considering this choice to think about the color of the lighting. Fluorescents are "cold," and will not show the true color of your countertop or backsplash. That may not be important to you, but if you're installing $$$ granite or quartz, please spend the extra money on LEDs so you can enjoy your beautiful surfaces and appreciate their true colors. We chose Kichler LEDs for our kitchen and put fluorescents in the DR (because we don't spend a lot of time in there). Our LED UCLs are now failing (18 months after installation) and our lighting provider has agreed to provide replacement fixtures (but not installation) for free. I'm more than a little annoyed, but still love my LED UCLs.

If anyone is interested, contrary to my own plan I wound up installing the UC panels under the front of the cabinets instead of the back. I did this everywhere except the PT holder. There, I mounted one just behind it, not all the way to the rear. The choice for me was simple: I could see the panels in the back and not in the front. The PT holder hides the panel to an acceptable degree, and there is no noticeable inconsistency between the PT panel and the next one in front thanks to excellent diffusion. The glare/reflection I worried about is not a factor and I've got a dual wireless dimmer mounted to the wall. Very happy with the results! Thanks again to everyone for your help.
