Picking Paint Colors! (& roof color, too!)
Comments (1)We went through that agony recently and I feel your pain. Sherwin Wiliams has a great tool just got an overall sense of how colors related to one another on various elements of the house. Even if you are not using SW it might be good to try. In the end, we went through about 6 rounds of samples to find color combos we liked and the key was buying poster board and painting each color on almost the whole thing (would have done the whole whole thing if we weren't in an apartment with no space). You can carry poster board around with one once it's dry, check out the color in various lights, hold it up to brick samples, other color samples, roofing etc and get a feel. Look at it in bright light, dim light, we even took it to our site to see how it would look at various times of day. It will probably look at tad darker on the actual house but not too much. This all might seem like overkill to some but we had to choose so many colors (roof, trim, shutters, siding, shakes, door, brick) and were very unsure until we did this. On the other end there were no surprises either, we are very happy. To upload photos you need to have them on a web host like photobucket or flickr and then add the link to the photo in the post. You can 'embed' the photo in the post that way. HTH...See MoreWhat exterior colors go with light orange brick and a light gray roof?
Comments (7)Favorite go-to exterior color plan is to pull the color from the mortar for the body of the house - or as close to matching the mortar color as you can get. It's neutral and guaranteed to work with what you've got. For the trim, tell your painter/paint mixer person that you want the same mortar-inspired body color **BUT** several shades lighter or darker - your choice. I'd probably go lighter. It's simple, I know, but it's easy for anybody to execute and you end up with curb appeal that's tasteful, cohesive and pulled together....See More1950s Orange Brick Ranch - New Roof and Gutters
Comments (10)When your budget allows, get a cottage style door. The one you have now feels Victorian. Think about getting a panel with windows for the garage door. Remove the railing. It is a visual barrier to you entry. Plant only perennials there. Add a few plants along the foundation. Be careful not to plant too close to the house. Allow a foot at maturity between the side of the house and the plant. Chose different heights and leaf color. Include some evergreen and some flowering. Don't plant anything that will grow above the bottom of the windows. This color, but not this style would look great!...See MoreNeed exterior roof/paint colors for mid century home with blonde brick
Comments (4)Gray roof is good. I would not go with the black trim. Black paint and even black metal fades or oxidizes and shows spider webs, dust and damage more than lighter colors. Maybe a gray-blue or gray-green trim? To me, cream siding close to the brick color would be good with an interesting trim color, but it would have to be a good match. And maybe paint the stone in front by the trellis the same cream. There is a school of thought that garage doors should recede, so match the siding, but your's are front and center so you may as well make them look interesting. There is the concern of maintenance requirements on exposed wood garage doors, though....See MoreRelated Professionals
