Can this home be improved how we'd like?
Comments (36)I agree with those who said the view makes up for a lot. We bought an ugly duckling lake house that needed (and still needs) a whole lot more updating than either of the homes you've linked to. Sometimes I get frustrated with the plastic showers, the fake marble vanity tops ... and the green tub ... but slowly but surely we are turning this into our forever home. And in the meantime, when I think I just can't stand the ugly parts a moment longer, I look out at that view and know we made the right choice....See MoreRemodeling 3 children or guest baths for home sale
Comments (54)Beth H. As pretty as your bath is, I also love your black kitty cat! I had a black cat for 12 years until he died, and could not get anymore because of my children's allergies to cats. I have a large skylight over my whirlpool tub in my own home and love it. I could do a big shower if I took that whirlpool out, but I happen to be one of those rare persons who uses their whirlpool all the time. In the home I'm remodeling, could I just do an accent in the niche and eliminate a stripe? The new build homes around my area all seem to have accent borders either vertical or horizontal. I agree with Tatts above about borders being like wall paper borders, only problematic to change. I just not have been in one new build home, not model home, but hew builds for sale that have not had accent tiles in every single bathroom. I don't have them in my own home, so I didn't really know. Your accents are so tastefully done, but also in your master....See MoreWhat can I do to improve the home exterior with these windows?
Comments (4)getting a window and siding quote shouldn't be that hard. the indoor part patching the drywall can be done by a skilled handyman. you can probably remove the grills yourself and that would change things right away. I would also add cedar or cedar-looking shingles to the peaks to warm up the front. The problem in estimating what this will cost - it is incredibly regional. At this time, some parts of the country are booming and you just cannot get skilled help for smaller jobs....See MoreImprove curb appeal: First home help; Front landscaping suggestions?
Comments (43)Flo, I like your sketch very much (although without knowing the basic sun/wind info I mentioned above, it may or may not be what she needs.) However, the suggestion of polished black Japanese river stones for a first time home owner in Oklahoma is probably not helpful.b You will drain her budget and she will find herself looking at dusty, not shiny, stones. If she likes your concept of creating a dry bed/ river effect (as I do), you or someone else might teach her how to do this with grasses native to her area. Ones that can be easily propagated by division, require no water or weeding, and will blow in her prairie breezes while attracting birds and wildlife. Can, I urge you to google images of landscapes by Oehme, Van Sweden. They are known for using sweeps of native plants, especially grasses. My suggestion to you is to play around with flexible hoses or ropes in dividing your wide open space to see what shapes please you. Then imagine the spaces filled with different color blocks of various heights. Which ones do you want moving, which ones static? Designing a three dimension landscape from scratch like yours can be overwhelming. Break it down into digestible parts. 1) Gather all information about your conditions. 2) Get out the hoses and ropes and draw on the ground like a canvas....See MoreRelated Professionals
