awkward rectangle bedroom!

I love my new room but because it used to be a playroom instead of a bedroom, it shaped quite awkwardly. There is a nice wainscoting all around and the windows are quite high making the room not too bright. I'm going to be changing it up and I was thinking of painting the top part of the walls a nice dark green. Would that be too dark? Should I paint it a lighter colour?

As well, I would love to take any advice on how to design this room! Its long and awkward shaped and theres a door at each end of the room. No closet so i would definitely need a lot of shelving. I was thinking of of putting my bed low to the floor on the wall of where the doors are, and then putting low cabinets all across the other side of the wall. Using white furniture with wooden/ walnut trimmings and a nice big carpet and some nice plants to fill up the space.

Could you post the size of the space and also if there is a closet or not.FYI I hate that color of green but it depends on bedding , wall color needs to chosen after all the rest of the stuff has been decided .So get bedding, bed dressers all before making a decision about wall color This is one way of handling a long narrow room We need to know a bit more about you too and your style.

A dark color is never going to help brighten a room! Keep it light, whether a neutral or a color.

Agree that the bed on the door wall and then low shelving along the other wall would work great, whether you plan on a TV or art or whatever on top. If you need hanging, you could work in one taller unit among the rest. Ikea makes good ensembles of units that can be combined in various ways to make something like you're talking. (Nordli and/or Pax come to mind -- look at Besta too.)

The grey squares are mirror (which i would also use a similar trim to the windows at the top and bottom in order to make it appear as if it is another window. The orange color are curtain placement (i would recommend floor to ceiling to make the 8ft ceilings look taller). and blue in furniture. the benefit of one versus the other is in A - this is the most dramatic appearance. it is literally the first place you see. and it gives you space at the end to do anything you might want (add a chair to read, or a yoga mat if you are into that) without blocking a door (this is important if there is more than one person in the room. B is second best as the next spot your eye goes to but it doesnt leave as much room.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the idea of it being multifunctional over time and it eventually becoming a desk or reading nook. I'll play around with that. I don't think we're willing to take on a renovation that would involve moving a window unfortunately!

Thanks guys for the input! I think it'l be a good idea to paint my walls a neutral colour. I love the style of the room Patricia provided! I really like the simplicity of the design but i think i'll need a bit more storage for my clothes and whatnot. The room is approx. 11.5 feet by 30 feet. Here are some better photos of what my room looks like and some other styles i like for my room.

Questions:

Are there electrical outlets on the door/bed wall? There seem to be plenty on the opposite wall. I do not see any on the door wall side. You would need one or two for bedside lighting.

Obviously, one of those doors goes to the rest of the house. What is the other door to...a bathroom?

Is there any space (at least 12"-14") behind the door openings (where the doors meet the walls? Or do the doors swing open up against the wall? Hard to see in your photos. The ends of the bedrooms would make a better place to add shelving that could wrap around the windows. But I fear that the doors would be in the way.

Do you have an objection to losing one of the smaller windows and making a small corner closet in one of those areas?

yes! there are 2 outlets on that side of the wall near the doors.

One door leads to the rest of the bedrooms, and another actually leads straight to its own stairs that takes you to the downstairs living room.

There is 20inches of space behind the door! Also no, I was thinking I would lose one side of the windows because I was thinking of installing some closet units anyways. I was thinking of the side of the room with the higher and wider window.
