IS all fish emulsion created equal?
Comments (20)I bought a bottle of fish emulsion from the Tractor Supply Company..I didn't know there was a difference in brand or type..I just know that I love it and my plants haven't been greener and cleaner since..I even chased the white flies away from my gardenia bush and holly bushes with it..So now I spray in on just about everything..Roses, trees, bushes, and of course my herbs, veggies, and melons. I just have to be careful not to spray it on my parsley since I'm sharing it with some future swallowtail butterflies. Btwâ¦I had a horrible problem with slugs last year..They won't come near my plants nowâ¦I squirted one trying to go near a plant bed just to see what it would doâ¦It shriveled up..No wonder why they won't go near my plants now.. FE has given me a peace of mind..And my plants are all so happy..I can't believe my baby tomatoes that I've only planted two weeks ago are already blooming. So far my experience shows that it's an awesome fertilizer, a non toxic pesticide, and a slug repellent. I even read that it helps with diseases too. So I squirted stems, barks and branches as well as leaves with it on just about everything too. Everything looks healthier. Yep, FE is definitely a winner and a guarded secret that I refuse to let my neighbors know about..lol...See MoreAll pond pump GPH ratings equal?
Comments (11)Mike, You pointed it out to me, but it wasn't you who convinced me to not trust manufacturer data, it was the data. In addition to the Sequence mistake I saw one in the Danner data too. That was a pretty small survey and I didn't look that close at the remaining material. So, yeah, looked pretty untrustworthy to me. I don't think manufacturers are doing this intentionally, just lack of caring on their part and also on the part of customers. Apparently few people are checking the data or care enough to complain. Most manufacturers don't even bother to provide any data and that sure doesn't seem to hurt sales. Seems like most people just go by the max watts and call it a day. If I had a way of knowing a manufacturer was understating or accurately stating performance I'd go with them too. And the way you figure which are and which aren't? Can only be from experience of using lots of pumps from lots of manufacturers and performing exact tests yourself on each, keeping careful records and then hope they don't change something the next time you buy a pump. Listen to some opinions online? I haven't been that impressed with opinions over the course of my life no matter the source so I have to pass on that. For me it can't really be both ways. Manufacturer data can't be suspect and also be used to make decisions. I'd feel like I'd be kidding myself. That's just me. I think I'll just go with the crowd and use the max watt and GPH too. Maybe at some point I'll test pumps myself and return pumps that don't perform as expected....See MoreNot All Seed Packets Created Equal
Comments (9)Wow, I'd be really mad if the package promised a couple hundred seeds, and there were only 25! That's probably why a lot of companies just give the weight of the seed. I've bought seeds from Swallowtail Garden Seeds, an online company, and they give a seed amount on the site. Every packet had the right amount of seeds, or more. If you can find an 800 number for Aimers, or have free/cheap long distance, I'd call them and see what they have to say for themselves! Maybe they'll mail you replacements...which you can use to start trading seeds! If you want to start trading seeds before this fall (when you should be able to harvest seeds from your own garden, or snatch them from other places) just look for seeds on sale. If you pick things you'd like to grow anyway, you can keep some to grow, and try to trade the extras. Or if you just want seeds for trading, browsing though the seed exchange page will give you an idea of what a lot of people look for. People also post offers for "free" seeds--you just pay postage both ways, called a SASBE (BE is bubble envelope)...See MoreAre all warming drawers created equally?
Comments (5)I'll link a thread below with lots of good info. As always, Plllog is a font of knowledge which she presents in a very easily understood manner. I bought a panel ready 30" KA unit and installed it in the forbidden under-the-oven-stack location. I specifically wanted a unit with the moist/dry function so I could keep crisp items like waffles crisp. Plus, mine has a slow cook function so can be used in place of a crock pot. Personally, I wouldn't keep items in the drawer longer than about 90 minutes or so. My manual, and a couple of others I read when researching before purchase, says not to hold cooked food for longer than 60 minutes. I find the food quality deteriorates at that point, but I think the manuals' recommendations have more to do with food safety. I'm surprised that I rarely see any discussion of the maximum or appropriate food holding time here when WDs are discussed. Here is a link that might be useful: WD explanation...See MoreUser
