No, not a stinging nettle. Apart from the appearance being different stinging nettles are definitely stingy ;- )

Can you give a geographical location? And some idea of the habitat. Garden? Wild? Woods? Marshes?

Possibly one of the native non stinging nettles like Boehmeria or Laportea. All of them including Clearweed (Pilea) will host the same butterfly larva as Stinging Nettle.

I tried most remedies, but nothing seemed to work. After 6 hours of still experiencing the sting, trying to ignore the pain, I began to read about my recent purchase of ecloths. Zappo. A light bulb went off! I rubbed an ecloth over my fingers about 20 times, then repeated this. The sting disappeared nearly instantaneously! Note that an ecloth is not the same as a microfiber cloth.

I have two stinging nettle plants but they aren't growing hardly at all. I guess I made the mistake of planting the well rooted cuttings in 3 gallon pots instead of 1 gallons to start. The tea is very sweet. Such a joy to drink it. I made the mistake of trying to eat the leaves after I made the tea. Big mistake. Nothing like stinging tongue. Thank God it only lasted a few minutes. I hope I will have some to share next year. I don't know how to make it grow any faster in pots.

Typically there is a deep horizontal rootstock from which vertical shoots grow up. These rather easily pull loose from the main root, may look quite like separate plants but are not. With the result that digging them does not remove the infestation.

There is a quick way to find out. Touch me in the morning. Leaves seem more smooth than the leaves of U. dioicus. Could be a closely related non stinging family member.
