Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

What fixtures should I get over kitchen island!?

My kitchen is very similar to the first photo posted (photo from mytexashouse.com) - island with two pendants hanging, dining nook to the right. The second photo posted is the chandelier that's hanging in my dining space.... what light fixtures could I get over the island that won't clash with this chandelier since you can see them both at the same time!? My kitchen has white cabinets, white marble countertops, white marble backsplash laid on herringbone so I'd like to do something interesting but maybe not too busy since the chandelier is so fun..... any ideas!!!?

I can't comment on the size of the light fixtures for the peninsula, but I do like your choice. In my kitchen I have 3 different kinds of light fixtures - one over the table, another one over the kitchen sink and then 2 the same over one window and the back door. Pot lights elsewhere. Personally I like the different fixtures - not too matchy matchy - but maybe it is not for everyone. They all have something in common though - the metal in them is antique brass.

why don't you get some painters tape and mark out the size you think you'd like, or the max that you can use there. don't forget chairs and having to scoot them back to get in and out. what if you used a round table and got one w/a leaf when you want bigger? You have so many rectangular lines in that one area, using something round will soften it a bit. I think something like this would be perfect

Why bother idf all you are doing is lighting the ceiling. IMO island lighting is best chosen to light the work area and for sure not Edison bulbs or chandelier bulbs I like all LED 4000K in a kitchen for all the lighting.As for size it depends on the fixture and youe space . So maybe post a pic of the space too.

Different goals come into play. Task lighting for when you work at the island counter requires 450+ lumens at the surface. The source should be placed so you don't shadow the work with your body. Ambient lighting is another objective. Recessed led cans on dimmers can do both. Pendants on dimmers or pendants and recessed lights can also do both. In addition, pendants can be decorative. Adequate task lighting is often missing in kitchen design.
