I agree with Alan. LUCKY YOU! I see them but only rarely and even then for no more than 4 or 5 days in late April or early May.

That is a very cute little bird, whatever it is! Birds that wont come to feeders WILL come for a bath. Boy is this true. This summer I finally put a bird bath about 60 feet behind the house, in an open area near the back gardens. I have seen many unusual birds in the bath I had no idea were coming to the yard! These are not great pics - Point & shoot camera taken from window - and I ID'd some of the birds using binoculars. There are 2 Bluebird fledglings, some sort of Warbler, and a Field Sparrow (I think) here - Fox Sparrow and some sort of Warbler here -

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean they were hunting, they were just gliding around in circles, very, very high, from what I have read, this is common behavior for red-tailed hawks around this time of year and has something to do with mating. I was able to get a good look with my binoculars and they were definitely hawks. They have been doing this lately, more so on sunny days, usually at least two, sometimes more, but that day there were more of them than I have ever seen! Very pretty!

Hi All Thanks a lot for the IDs - much appreciate your sharing of your knowledge! Like Esther, I too thought it was a Towhee but then wasn't sure since I didn't see any white on him, he was much darker brown, and had a sharper beak. He was quite far away (used 400mm lens). Thanks again Shyamala
