Field Research on 30" gas ranges (follow up to pemfan's dilemma)
Comments (14)Thank you Joe. This is so helpful. I will go home and measure. I am thinking in terms of my cooking style/needs and have concluded that my needs are in the burners more than the oven itself. I want reliable burners with decent power (but still tolerating OTR like the badgeless FP CMOH30SS.) Can anyone comment on Smeg vs Viking3 in regard to reliability of burners? I have seen some angry youtube videos about the Smeg burners so I'm waffling. My only negative experience with my previous Viking 30" pro was a dead burner, so I'm gun shy on that too. sigh!...See Morerange hood insert dilemma
Comments (5)I can see your conundrum . . . the hood is just a bit on the shallow side and the narrowing of the chase as it goes to the ceiling means the body of the unit comes into play as well. It's possible that the Best by Broan, model PK22 would fit. It might be best to consult an appliance store where they can handle the installation and check for fit before you purchase. Otherwise, I'd check to see if the cabinet manufacturer has a suggested unit that would fit. Good luck!...See MoreRange hood dilemma
Comments (16)I don’t like wide cabinet-surround hoods because it makes your kitchen look like it has “The Great Wall of Cabinetry”. A stainless steel hood provides relief of the wall of cabinetry, as well as welcome gleam and reflection. Also, a wood surround is harder to clean than stainless steel. Also, typically cabinet makers make the hood surround too shallow so that the front burners aren’t covered. And finally, when you have a wood surround hood you must buy the liner and blower separately which sets up a whole bunch of questions as to the many choices in those. With a stainless steel hood it’s all-in-one, done. Make sure your duct to the outside is 8” or 10” diameter. Choose a canopy-shaped hood, not one of those flat ones. Make sure to get a hood that has baffle filters not mesh. The depth front-to-back must be minimum 22“, but 24” is better....See MoreWide Living Room Dilemma
Comments (5)you don't have to push the sofa against the bannister. bring it out a foot or so like this, so it's not right on top of it. you have the room. on the large wall you can do something like this (these are Ikea hack ideas) with or without the tv and if it still bothers you, bring in a higher bannister. Something like this w/glass put the sofa over by the windows and do the console/play cabinets over on the wall. (or, enclose the bannister area but raise it w/this so you still get light) another option is to do something longer against the banniset and leave sofa where it is (ignore the TV) for the window, do some type of built in bench w/storage (doesn't even have to be the size of all three windows. you could do just the middle one if you like)...See Morezneret
