SS Sink - Blanco vs. Elkay?
Comments (12)Charlikin, I looked a little further and found a couple of other suggestions: Kindred's granite composite - 25-3/4"L x 22-3/16"W x 9-1/8"D  Scroll down to the single bowls  They come in graphite, polar white and ivory. Astracast's granite composite - 25"L x 22"W x 8"D  Astracast's composite granite  They come in alpine white, sahara stone and metallic black Are these too wide for your counters? I had a problem finding the right sink, too. I have a 29" sink base and couldn't find anything that fit my specifications. For some reason they seem to make sinks really big or really small. Nothing in between. I went back and forth between granite composite and stainless. Then I ended up getting the Blanco Silgranit (511-712) 24" x 20 13/16" x 10". Yeah, it's deep and I'm getting used to the extra reach. But it certainly is beautiful! I was able to have my existing cabinets bumped out to accomodate the 20 13/16" width. I didn't want my fauct to be squished against the backsplash. I'm not trying to talk you into anything. Just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain. :-) So to answer the question that you actually asked about the stainless sinks, I agree with Weissman. "You really won't notice the nickel content or most likely the gauge either. Pick a sink because you like a look and the price." I don't think you could go wrong with Blanco or Elkay. They're both reputable names. HTH!...See MoreElkay quartech, e-granite, Blanco silgranit differences
Comments (15)Hi Breezy -- FWIW it may be worth asking around a little more about this. It may be so, but I'm worried this may be a little embellishment on a past, finite problem. I think -- at least so I've gathered from a few unrelated sources - that at first both silgranite and e-granite had trouble cracking during shipping. I gather both are better now than formerly, but silgranite got better before e-granite. I don't know if that's just familiarity with shipping-type problems that they've been able to mitigate now that things are better understood, or whether they've actually literally reformulated. I guess I've been led to believe the latter, that things are now literally different from how they were a couple years ago. Someone I spoke with today said that until a year ago or so e-granite still had some trouble, sometimes, shipping; silgranite until a couple years ago. But now both companies -- he claimed -- are comparable. Again, the recommendation to inspect with a flashlight before installation for cracks. Again I heard that once installed, the sinks are utterly durable. I heard claimed this was so for both brands. Whether there's more involved in the long term that distinguishes the brands, or whether the distinction is due to a now largely-irrelevent shipping issue (due to material improvement first by Blanco, then Elkay), I can't say. But it's possible you can have both sinks with impunity. That's one problem with judging solely from reports of problems -- there can be a cohort of products susceptible to problems, that later (or earlier) cohorts didn't exhibit. It's tricky to pick away the time-component....See MoreDid you buy your silgranit sink online or local vendor?
Comments (25)Our Silgranit Diamond 1 3/4 sink in Cinder arrived today and seems to be unscathed. :) (It's about time that a few things about this remodel start to go a bit easier!) We purchased from Home Perfect...I read a few different reviews that weren't completely favorable, but most of those seemed to stem from items not in stock and being given erroneous information in that regard. We ordered the sink and the grids on 11/24 and it arrived today (11/27)...sure can't complain about that! In retrospect, we could have waited a bit longer, but many of the places I was looking for the sink online were saying that they were out of stock and it would be a 2-3 week wait. HomePerfect said that there were 3 available when I placed my order, and it has since been updated to reflect that 2 are available, so I'm assuming that they accurately deducted the one that is now sitting at my house for the next Lord-knows-how-long!...See MoreBuying Blanco Silgranit Sink for kitchen remodel
Comments (5)I've had a Blanco Performa Cascade super single Silgranite anthracite sink for 12 years and it looks like new. The only time I've had an issue was when I set a glass measuring cup covered in olive oil down in the sink and it left a grease ring, which I couldn't remove but disappeared on its own within a few weeks. Boiling water hasn't been an issue. It's a breeze to clean up and I would never go back to stainless. Stick to your guns and have it undermounted....See Moreaprilneverends
