Please help - need built-in microwave less than 22 inches wide
Comments (5)don't think a "built in" is out there. you can prob. find a microwave that is 20 1/2" -22" wide and just place it in the space. If you really wanted the look you could order a kit from micro -trim to fake the built in look....See MoreWall Microwave - Built in or Shelf Cabinet ?
Comments (22)Aries61, yes, I think you are right about all appliances having a relatively short life now. Fortunately ranges and dishwashers have standard sizes so at least replacement isn't too challenging. I'm trying to figure out how to configure my cabinets for some flexibility in replacing the refrigerator, since it is like the microwave and size is not standardized, especially as I want a very small size due to my tiny kitchen. Graywings, I agree completely. I also have young kids and would prefer that the microwave be where they can reach it (my ten year old can make himself oatmeal and popcorn and such already). But I hate to give up under the counter drawer space to the microwave, especially as for me it is not a very frequently used appliance. If I put it up on a shelf, I will be able to reach it, but it will be much harder for the kids--the ten year old might be okay very soon, but I have a four year old who will probably have a few years of being able to operate the microwave but unable to reach it safely if I place it so high. It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a good answer....See MoreHelp me pick a great built-in microwave
Comments (13)Sharp also makes (perhaps uniquely) an over the counter microwave oven. This hangs below a cabinet, so no shelf is needed. If the cabinet height is appropriate, it is possible to get the oven bottom to align with other cabinets. Unlike over the range units, this microwave has lights underneath but makes no attempt at cooktop ventilation. If you choose this approach, let me know and I'll provide some tips for installation. kas...See MoreNeed help replacing built-in microwave
Comments (1)Emily, When end my GE microwave died last fall I was certain I would go with another brand to synchronize the brand strategy a tad in our kitchen. But after looking at several brands, the GE just delivered the best value and I liked how the buttons all worked. To be honest, hard to come down hard on a microwave that lasted 17 + years for me with heavy use. For about $220 I got a GE that I would consider an upgrade vs the old, turn table, better lights, quieter fan, more control options. One surprise was that the bracket Ray was different and could not just drop the new where the old was without switching out the wall bracket. Also, the plug hole was in a different spot, so had to drill a new hole. One thing your installer will notice is that the new is only about 2/3 the weight of the old. Anyhow, best of luck with your decision. I'm still very happy with my decision (GE) almost a year later. Laundryvet...See Moreandrewrxxx
