constanceann--we had the same bathroom as yours! Our plumber always said that the American Standard yellow was his favorite color! LOL I might be able to help with your tub height dilemma. We replaced the lovely yellow tub in that bathroom (ours was enameled steel I believe), and added one to the MB. We installed Toto cast iron tubs in both (the 1525 model). Our plumber had us install the tubs on top of the first layer of our plywood subfloor. The second layer of plywood runs up to the tub's apron (and then there's mud, thinset, and tile on top of that second layer). This way the tub is slightly sunken into the floor. The tub is a normal depth tub, but the step out, over the lip/top edge, onto the floor is a shorter step, if you know what I mean. I couldn't understand why our plumber had us install the tubs that way (thought it might be an aesthetic thing, just for looks, so the tub didn't look as tall and obtrusive perhaps), but the first time I actually used the tub, the lightbulb went on--"Ah-ha, it's easier to get out of the tub" (without whacking my shins on the side/top of the tub--which clumsy me did on many occasions!). Don't want to hijack, so do a search for my finished bathrooms and you can see the lovely before pics (yellow and all!) and you might see how the new tubs look height-wise. If not, email me and I'll try to take some pics showing that for you.

The problem with a really brown shade is that it will dull down the appearance of your wood countertops. The counters read as red-gold. The highest contrast to that would be a blue green. A more yellow green would pick up the gold and be a softer contrast. A more blue tone, like a spruce or a deep blue-gray, could be very soothing. If you want to stay with warmer colors, try going for a good value contrast (i.e., light vs. dark). A reddish beige tone, for instance. All of these tones are in your backsplash tiles (I'm assuming you were showing us the mosaic, not the hidden subway tiles). The best way to choose paint is to get samples of all the different colors you think you could like, paint large patches of each on different walls, and see how they look in different lights. Daylight, shaddow, rainy light, electric light, etc. Some which look fabulous in one light look dreary in another. One, at least, should look good whenever you catch sight of it.

Sounds like you need a spacer next to the cabinet with the drawer. If the counter hasn't been installed yet, might not be too big a problem. This should have been planned for if you had the mreasurements for the range ahead of time.

This is a blank slate of the floor plan. The kitchen is over an unfinished basement and we have significant freedom to move water and gas lines. There is a ceiling obstruction that extends from the alcove on the exterior (left wall) across the room to the right (wall abutting the dining room). Two beams extend from the alcove across, and there is a dropped area of ceiling that is only 81” high in the area directly across from the alcove (it’s 47 inches wide). I have a young family with 3 kids between the ages of 5 and 9. We have lived here 10 years and intend for this to be our forever home. We like to gather in the kitchen and do a fair amount of informal entertaining. My current kitchen is chopped to hell and is not functional. I want more functional counter space and better function on the whole. I prize making functional use of all space. I do most of the cooking, and my husband is kitchen helper and is often doing clean up and dishes while I cook. Thanks for the tips regarding what info I need to provide.
