May 26 (Memorial Day 'observed')
Comments (9)My mom used to call Memorial Day Decoration Day & we always went to the cemtary to put flowers on the graves of our dead ancestors, none of which as I recall served in the military, so I'm thinking that it doesn't have to be confined to the armed forces, although I know that's how it started. What I remember chiefly about Memorial Day is marching with my Girls Scout troop in our town's annual parade. LAer on after I was no longer in the Girls Scouts, I'd go with my friends & we'd sit on the steps of the post office & watch the parade. It always signaled the start of summer. And, oh yeah! Now you can all wear white! Enjoy!...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? April 26-28
Comments (21)Magothyrivergirl - I know I've seen ideas on how to keep cats from using areas as their litter box, so I don't know if any of these would help: -There are a number of household foods that felines absolutely detest. Some of these products include orange peels, coffee grounds, and cayenne pepper. Create a mixture in a large cup using any three or all three of these ingredients adding water to make a solution. Take this crazy concoction and sprinkle along the perimeter of the sandbox play area and the cat will turn nose and tall away once he or she gets a whiff of this new barrier. You will have to re-apply this solution every few days due to wearing away by rain and the sun. -One of the best devices available for keeping cats out of the sandbox or even yard is a water sprinkler triggered by a motion sensor. These devices can be found online and are one of the most humane ways of keeping cats out of the yard. A few soakings of cold water will be enough to deter the neighborhood cat from urinating or burying fecal matter in the sandbox, garden or even yard. -Line the outer edges of your sandbox with tinfoil. Tinfoil is shiny, makes a funny noise and slippery. Cats do not like to walk or stand on tinfoil and will avoid it if they get the chance. -Place a row of garden basil around your sandbox on all four edges. The row should be short enough so that your children can step over it. Cats do not like the smell of basil and will avoid areas where it is planted. I don't know if any of those are useful for you but they were things I would not have thought of! Karlene...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? June 26-28
Comments (11)Glad to hear someone is sewing this week-end as I probably won't get a chance until maybe tomorrow. Today DGD is moving back home from Orlando for a month as she can't get into the dorm until August and the lease ran out on the apt she was sharing......one more year of college. Tonight is a BD bash out at DDs ranch for the other DGDs husband and I offered to make oven baked mac and cheese for 15 people. In between this, that and the fence post, we're preparing to be invaded (Thursday) by most of the Indiana family to celebrate my honey's 80th BD........since I'll be 75 in Sept, they decided to include me in the 4 day celebration that just happens to include a lot of fireworks. I'm thinking the cows won't be giving any milk for a few days and the horses (all 2 of them) will get spooked. Sounds like everyone has something to do in the sewing room.......carry on........See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? May 26-29
Comments (16)I'm excited to have found a longarmer just 15 minutes from my home and will be delivering two tops with backs to her on Saturday. Last week I picked up the first one she finished for me, and it's beautiful, so I hope to get the binding on this weekend. I'm naming it a Rose for Lauren. I'll post a pic as soon as I finish. I hope to continue on another scrap project, that I occasionally pick up. It's a small paper piece block, so I need lots and lots of blocks to make a quilt of any size, but I'm loving this old project if only to clean out scraps. The not so focused pic shows the first dozen and I have another doz or so finished....it's a long term project, but a relaxing one a few blocks at a time. Happy sewing everyone!...See Moregrammyp
