Thanks to both of you. The "NetPLwiz" worked for me and the link that juneroses gave really explains it well. Thanks again, I already have way too many PINs and passwords as it is. I do not need one for a machine that never leaves my desk!

Ugh! I've been getting notified about the update and keep postponing it. I don't think I have a password, never set up a Windows email, but who knows. I didn't know what I was doing when I first got Win 10...totally confused by it.

So, I might have given a password but I don't remember.

I'm so glad I read ccecilm's post because now I'm not taking the update!

I've always set up my personal PCs to operate without a login and password. I have almost nothing personal that causes me concern on a PC - the little that's there I don't care about. It makes it easier when PCs are shared among users that they can be turned on and used by anyone.

With that configuration, Windows 10 updates have caused no problems.

However, I recall setting up the computer and Microsoft demanding an email and possibly a password. I recall trying to get around it, not sure if I did. I know I refused Windows mail.

Another problem was that my laptop was a gift for my husband. He had it first. That creates another set of problems. He decided to not use it as he couldn’t deal with Win 10. Laptop sat in his closet for 2 years. Hubby is 85yrs old.

i took it when my XP machine got messed up trying to download Win 10.

Sorry for this long story. I fear there might be a user/password although I’m not sure.

So, I’ll try to skip this new update.

There are updates every month.

Let someone correct me if I'm wrong (as with the Comcast phone/modem issue in the other thread) but if the PC turns on and is available for use without a log on, I can't imagine anything will change with an update.

Win10 is so undifferent from preceding versions (when the frontend is adapted with one of the easily available free small apps) that I continue to be surprised with anyone who expresses any reluctance about the user experience.

First of all, thank you for your help on my other dilemma.

I have such difficulty with Win 10. I have learned enough to do what I need to do. But, I knew my way around XP so easily I took such better care of my computers than I do now.

For example, I kept getting pop ups from MS that updates were ready to be installed. It’s on my screen now. “Important Updates are Pending.”

i keep hitting ‘remind me later.’

Last night, before shutting down, I tried to find the updates to install. Couldn’t find them! Tried a search, sat there for 1/2 hour and get, ‘ no results.’ I wanted to let them in as I was going to bed. Couldn’t find them. Went to Administrative Tools. Nothing! Looked around Best I could, not knowing where anything is, no luck! Went to bed.

Came here and saw Ccecilm’s post and was glad I didn’t find them!

I’ll hold off for now.

I had a weird issue with my logon screen on Win 10 Home after a recent update. I was also taken to a Microsoft logon screen rather than my normal autologon with no password. I just kept restarting the computer since this was a 'temporary' profile and after a reboot, it returned to my usual profile. After a few days of that it cleared up with no action on my part.

jane, I know you've previously talked about your reluctance to deal with Windows 10. I accept that for whatever reason it's been difficult for you. But in the "for whatever reason" direction, it's reported there are more than 500 million Windows 10 users worldwide and I promise you few struggle with it. And many of the happy users are senior citizens. I'm a full fledged Social Security recipient!

Try installing one of the front end emulators - like Start Menu 8 - to give it an appearance and user screens comparable to older versions. For me, other than performance and stability improvements, and memory use improvements, it's little changed from prior versions. Really. Good luck.
