Thoughts on a counter top for my master bathroom vanity.....
Comments (1)You can see what I used with my calacatta gold honed tile and dark wood, furniture-style vanity: leathered antique brown, which is really more of a grayish brown color. I didn't want to use marble on the counter for maintenance reasons and because I couldn't find one that matched or coordinated well with the floor (even other calacatta's didn't look right). I also considered a gray limestone from Greece, but, again, the maintenance problems....See MoreWhat laminate counters for this bathroom?
Comments (19)Wow!! I love the colors you've painted in there with the vinyl slate flooring. Looks wonderful! Fresh and clean :) Kudos to you. I don't know that I would have had that "vision". It really looks pretty! As for counter, you might want to check out prices on cultured marble. We just had a long double vanity top done a few months ago, and it was quite reasonable. But we dealt with the cultured marble co directly. It has double sinks and was almost 70" long (another odd size). By the time we bought new sinks and the formica we were almost to the same price as cultured marble and it is all seamless. Straight edge front and they can make it with no back or side pieces if you want. I even considered just a cultured marble slab with raised bowls but decided in the end that I prefer the ease of cleaning something that is all one piece, especially in a bathroom that is used alot....See MoreBathroom vanity paint color with marble countertop
Comments (5)Sure, if it looks good with the paint. It would have to be a few shades darker. Since Gray Owl, on the card with the progressively darer shades, looks like it is a greige, the darker colors become brown. So you would have to go to the paint store and find a charcoal that looks good with the greige color. If you go to the Benjamin Moore site (google Benjamin Moore Gray Owl) they will lead you to look at the color in different rooms, and it you go to where you can change the colors for the different elements in the room you will get the chance to see the Gray Owl with other colors. I see it with Silver Spring 2120-50 and it looks great,, a darker gray that will look nice with Carrara. Not Charcoal, but charcoal is awfully dark. This is from that site and it purports to show Gray Owl walls and Silver Spring doors and fireplace. It is worth a look, as the combo looks like it might go nicely with the Carrara. Your veins are quite dark, so might take a darker color. You are there and you can see, we can't, go to the paint store and see what looks good with the marble, take a sample with you to pick out the paint....See MoreCan you help me with my master bathroom counters?
Comments (9)There is nothing wrong with a laminate if it is in good condition. Some of us still buy it! My kitchen counters are Wilsonart laminate and my husband's bookcase appears to have a stone top, but it is Formica 360 with a matching edge. Even if you go with a very neutral top, you will be tied to the undertones in that white or off-white countertop when you remodel. You may curse yourself for such a constraint when you go to pick tile someday. BTW, when you do go to remodel the bathroom, it is not just a matter of re-tiling. A shower is a multi-layered thing. You can't remove the tile without ruining the waterproofing underneath (if there is any). You will likely be going back to the studs and redoing the wallboard and then waterproofing when it is time to do the shower. Not to mention the shower floor, which also will need to be waterproofed and sloped appropriately. So take your time and read in this forum over the intervening years and you will learn enough to have an intelligent conversation with your contractor (or family member) about the standard of waterproofing you expect them to achieve when they remodel. If you don't address it in the pre-planning, you may learn too late that they did not waterproof or they did it wrong....See More_sophiewheeler
