Toilet closet haters, unite!
Comments (56)The main problem is in trying to buy an existing home. Toilet closets are ubiquitous in the master bathrooms of newer houses. Combine this with most houses having the range/cooktop in a "closet" too (no counterspace on either side, just solid walls) and custom built is the way to go if you can do it. Whenever I am in public and have to go, it's the handicapped stall for me. I just cant cope with trying to do my business in a tiny stall. I can't see toilet stalls or economy seating on planes as suitable for anyone bigger than an anorexic ten-year-old. My custom home will have an alcove (no door, just a wall to walk around) with a urinal, toilet, and bidet in it (toilet in the middle) that allows a good 7x6 foot area to spread out in. The urinal can double as a floor drain when needed....See MoreChanges.....Magic workers needed for Plan
Comments (31)Bevangel, I hope you had a wonderful weekend! The weather was beautiful in IL. We spent most of our time at the town pool! I'm refreshed and ready to tackle the plans again. They are planning on breaking ground on Thursday, but the forecast for this week isn't looking so good.....LOL The question of the day, every time we see someone we know.....'So when are you breaking ground?' LOL I like your changes so much better. I love the double door entry to the master and the sink and makeup counter outside the bathroom. Very clever. I printed the last drawing you did and added some revisions. It is almost there. Thanks for being so helpful. If the pantry needs to take a little space from the master bedroom, that would be fine. I really like the stairs where they are. We sort of designed our whole plan around having the open staircase in the big open room. It makes the basement not so closed off since we have 2 little girls. We will have a finished basement, also with a family room, playroom, bar, bedroom, bath, and storage, as well as the mechanical room. In order for our girls to use the space, we wanted to make it more connected to the main living area. I'm thinking we should put a door or allow for a door to be added when they are teenagers and want their privacy in the basement, but for now I like it all open. Thanks again! Comments (18)If you're not sold on a seat, do you really need to build one in? Those triangle seats are awkward to use, so if that's what you'd do then honestly I'd skip it, save the money on building and tiling, and just buy a nice looking waterproof stool to keep in there. You can get nice looking ones with teak seats that have a nice 'spa' vibe, if that's the look you're going for. And then you can move it around depending on your needs - sometimes when I'm sick I'm happy to just SIT under the shower for a bit, which is hard to do with a fixed bench. And more than likely the bench will just serve as a collection point for Random Shower Stuff....See MoreNew Home Floor Plan
Comments (32)Overall this looks like a pretty standard suburban house layout, as developed and standardized over the last 40 years. Do a layout of the kitchen sooner than later. It appears to be undersized for the size of the home. If I have scaled it right the island is also to close to the wall cabinets to use it comfortably (looks to be 3'). Compared to your very generous breakfast room I think you can afford to expand it by a foot or two. How do you foresee using the formal dining and living. With the narrow doors entering them right now they are pretty cut off from the rest of the house. If you want a secluded space that might be perfect for you, but it also means you can't see much of them from the other parts of the house, including the foyer, and they may not get much use. Your garage is a little on the shallow side, especially if you plan to park 3 cars. Your last space is only 16.5' deep which is about the same length as a mid-sized SUV. Three cars will also fill the full width of the garage with just enough room to open the car doors partially. If you are only parking 2 cars inside, you could probably get away with having the third bay for storage with minimal storage in the rest of the garage. I see on your second floor plan that there is a window over the garage door. Do you plan to make this space accessible? It could be a storage loft accessed from the garage or a storage or bonus space accessed from one or moreof the bedrooms....See More- 6 years ago
