Antique Setee - Too Fancy for Back Entry Area?
Comments (45)So glad you bought this piece and I like your analogy. I think small solid accent pillows would work but would hide the cutwork. However for comfort they may be necessary. I certainly wouldn't reupholster until that fabric wears out or you tire of it. I think the art works well as that settee might have been in a farmhouse with such a view. I also think that the juxtaposition of the more rustic pic and frame with the formal settee is wonderful and the colors go well with the upholstery fabric, the stained wood, and the walls. The best decorated rooms IMO are those which have the unexpected rather than the 'safe' and sometimes boring choices. I like your choices and look forward to seeing what else you do in your decor. Have the confidence to do what looks right to you....See MoreChandelier for Dining Room too large?
Comments (6)yes, it will be (as someone who spent long time calculating light dimensions for standard ceilings for her own dining room ) you might have the width(will be very big)..your dining seems pretty big..I think you don't have the height to pull it off 8 feet ceiling-you have 96 inches allover correct? you need minimum 12' of these to go into chain..(canopy will add smth marginally too.) Let's round it down say it'a 12 '..and your height of chandelier without the chain is 33'..at a very minimum there are your 45 inches. It's visually light so lets say you can allow it be 29, 28 over the table? (usually 30-32..but I believe the shape here is forgiving and can be closer). so okay let's even make it (doubtful) 28'..28' plus minimum 45' of chandelier plus chain leave us with 73 inches used already. We had 96. 96-73=23. Dining table height is usually 30 inches. You'll try to force this beautiful piece-and it won't work. You can try and find smaller piece..or some companies customise..change proportions so it'll work in your space(well until a certain degree). But it comes with upcharge. Everybody's welcome to point out where I grossly miscalculated.....See MoreLighting too dim or too fancy for a laundry?
Comments (17)I ended up ordering the stained glass fixture the other day and it arrived today! When I hold the shade up to a light it doesn't seem to block too much -- for one thing the largest part of the shade is the round piece on the bottom which is a very translucent piece. And many of the sections of the stained glass portion are clear glass with a texture. When I ordered it, I also purchased two LED bulbs for it which are the 100w equivalent. GE makes a bulb that is between the 5000K daylight color and the 2700K soft light, which they call "Reveal." Its color is 2850K with a CRI of 100. The reviews were so great that I thought I'd give it a try, since so many say that the 5000K bulb give their home the look of a Walmart, and I don't really want that. This bulb has 1140 lumens so that will give me 2280 for the room overall. We'll see how that works; if it isn't enough along with the undercabinet light I plan to add, then Elizabeth's suggestion would be a good solution, especially since the shade is so pleasing to me that I wouldn't mind two....See MoreHelp my new curtains are too fancy for my bedroom?
Comments (28)Can you get a picture with the curtains pulled back and daylight coming in? The ceiling light is extremely harsh and unflattering, and makes it difficult to get a feel of things. One thing for sure I'd consider is painting the walls a softer off-white color. It would really compliment the room and features better than bright white, I think. With the busy patterns/tones of both the curtains and your flooring, yes, I’d go for a neutral, solid, soft rug with a bit of texture. Only posting this as an example, you can find many similar ones in varying price ranges: https://www.rugs-direct.com/Details/CalvinKleinHome-Riverstone-CK940/141591/228007 Beige: Gray:...See MoreFJ
