Has anyone grown successfully pepper mint from the seeds?
Comments (23)Mint? Go to the grocery store, buy a bunch of mint for a dollar or two. (Make sure it looks alive! Not wilted but vigorous.) take a 4" deep tray, fill with moist playsand (DO NOT MAKE MUD!...roots need oxygen). Pop pencil holes in the sand, drop in diagonally cut stems and cover with a humidity dome or a sealed clear plastic bag. Use sunlight or daylight artificials. No rooting hormone required. In 2-3 weeks you'll have more mint to transplant than you'll ever need. If you want the roots to get big...leave plants in the sand, remove dome and water with with a super diluted nutrient supplement like Masterblend or MiracleGro This technique will work with almost all fresh cut (perennia) herbs....See MoreHas anyone grown Agave from seed?
Comments (11)My seeds arrived! Worried me a bit getting a tracking # from Phoenix Desert Nursery, they must be affiliated with the Cactus Store. For a second there I found myself wondering if I was ordering plants in my sleep! I will start these once I get the stuff in order, at least the Agave and cacti species. The Agave seeds are much bigger than I expected, as are the Trichocereus. These will be MUCH easier to work with than those wretchedly tiny Mesembs! If anyone has advice on sowing, by all means chime in. For now, I am thinking some kind of cactus mix amended with extra pumice, with a layer of sand on top. I will probably plant in plastic baked good containers, to help with humidity early on as well as for the excuse to buy baked goods....See MorePilea Peperomioide has 2 new shoots

Comments (3)I had them in Az they can exist in severe drought and hard baked soil next to burning hot gravel or boulders etc. with no fertilizer. We didnt do a thing to ours and they thrived lol. I would just water enough to keep them going when young..let them dry out a little in between waterings. As with many desert and Australian type plants, it could be the FL humidity that eventually does them in....See MoreStefan
