Pink brick house needs update!!
We have been in our home 2yrs and never loved the brick color or trim/door etc. I hate the tan, makes it look so dated! Looking for any ideas to update without painting or staining the brick!! Landscaping is happening soon but the only option I see to further update exterior (which hubby doesn't like) is changing the brick color. Thanks!!

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoIf I were in your shoes, I would add a walkway from the front door to the sidewalk and change out the front door for a glass door or a more modern/contemporary or MCM type door. Bring the focus to the front door by painting it a bright color or a beautiful door like the insp pics below.
New landscaping is important to improving the exterior appeal. I'm not sure what color would work with your gable end...perhaps a urbane bronze or leave the current color of your gable. Just focus on the front door, landscaping and walkway and no one will notice the gable end.
^This style for your front entry would amp up the exterior IMO.

This pic above is a totally different style, but you can see that the bright colored, amazing front door and warm walkway are key to this home's appeal, along with the clean, modern landscaping (which would work well for your home).

Comments (54)Update: We painted the gutters and soffits Benjamin Moore Dragon's Breath and the columns and windows the same color, but desaturated. Changed out the lights, updated furniture, removed shutters and added horizontal fence/gate. We ripped up the hedges in our beds and planted birds of paradise, gingers, a banana tree and vincas. Over time they will fill nicely. Our beautiful oak tree's roots are right below the walkway, and we decided it wasn't wise to mess with it. The week we finished, our dream home down the block went up for sale, and we made an offer. Thankfully since we have invested so much time and love into our home (with a lot of guidance from Houzz) and it sold within 24 hours. So we passed the "finish line" for our current home, and will thankfully we able to admire her beauty when walking the neighborhood. Comments (15)I think those grays are too dark, & white mat be too bright( for garage doors). Something softer but maybe creamy or tawny. Because the garage is prominent and not so great to emphasize the doors. More make it look like part of the house mass and balance with landscaping and front door. I usually am wary of mixing gray with yellow because the grays are often too cold- though there are some classic yellow, gray and white color schemes. Maybe a light greige as Patricia showed. I don’t care for the garage, gables and roof all dark— it’s as though the rest of the house is a tiny blip. Maybe continue with some of the visualizations, going closer to the brick color but not exactly. Or if it’s easier, use a paint company app and pretend your brick is paint so you find something close to that color in the deck , and put in gables & trim & such in various colors....See More

Light trim is SW Agreeable Gray, darker trim is SW Worldly Gray and door is Fabulous Grape. The before was dreary 70s brown and covered with overgrown shrubs and trees.

5 years agoDifferent wavelength... Put the siding as close to the color of the brick as possible, so that it visually doesn't cut the house height. Add trim of some kind around the door, which gives it more presence, maybe also around the windows as well. A darkish band separating the brick from the siding brings your eye up. Hope that makes sense. Several photoshops, each with progressively more options.

Trim around door, + dark band raised higher. House looks taller, and front door has more presence. Could of course change door color, also!
Same as above but added more trim around the windows as well.
