Hot Tub Removed....Now What?

We just had our hot tub removed and now need to do something. One alternative is to pour a concrete patio. The design dilemma is whether or not to incorporate the existing 24x24 exposed concrete patio stones as part of the design or whether to do the whole thing as one slab. Suggestions?

Either pour a concrete patio OR use the existing 24x24 exposed concrete patio stones to create a patio adding new stones as needed. I would pour a new patio to match the other side because it is easier to keep clean, but in my area it rains a lot and we have lots of tree debris.

Hi! This would be considered an "add on" to the regular patio...a place to sit in the sun without the deck overhead. That's why I was wondering if it could be a new slab with the existing patio stones to surround it. Here's another picture from further back to give a better idea of the area.

Hello I'm new to the site. I have been given a hot tub and i am trying to figure out how to turn it into a fish pond It cracked over winter so I'm just going to seal it.. It works ... I LOVED our Coleman Maax 705 but they discontinued that line! boo! SO here are the two that are the closest, the loungers are a MUST. And these two come with massagers for your calves and feet! The more jets the better, these two I would definitely go "test drive" - yes, just as it sounds, when they are getting ready to close (and you have made an appointment for this!) go to the store and try out every tub. The majority of chemicals you use will be similar from one spa to the next with the exception of pH as this may need correction up or down depending on what type of sanitizer you use - since most sanitizers have differing pH levels and ultimately affect the acidity of the water in different ways. Juanita, yes that is a hand held shower head along with the water controls. You sit in the tub and take a shower otherwise the water goes all over the bathroom. Here are more styles. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to use an existing tub/shower wall combination for a new free standing tub? Not going to work. Most freestanding tubs are deeper than built in tubs so the spout is too low to reuse.. Additionally if you purchase new faucets, you have to change the valves in the wall so there is no avoiding having to demo the tile and the wall.

Unfortunately a new tub is not a possibility as the area is totally inaccessible. The old one had to be cut up in pieces to get it out.

Thanks for posting the picture with a larger view of the area. Since you already have a nice large outdoor seating area you probably do not need to reclaim this space for sitting. How about plants with rocks around them like the area next to this?

Interesting idea! Our biggest challenge at the moment is filling the hole as there is no access for moving any materials other than by hand. Not very good planning by the developer!

OMG hauling bags of dirt through the house! What a deal.

Alternatively you could frame it out, tie some rebar in there and fill it with concrete. Either way you are hauling bags of something through the house. Get some young hod carriers!

Actually we have a narrow path down one side so it wouldn't be through the house....just no room for a wheelbarrow or anything. The framing and concrete looks like a possibility as they could probably use one of those long hoses to pump the concrete over the top of the house.

Don't add paving unless you NEED it. Based on juxtaposition, it looks like the area could neatly be returned to garden space to match its surroundings. I would fill in ... and get rid of those patio "tiles" as they would then make no sense. If you need the extra paving, it looks like you could make a tidy square of 4 x 4 "tiles."

You could just fill it with soil and rocks, more or less to match the adjacent areas, and then do more plantings or even a selection of containers there. I'd leave the existing squares unless you have some problem with them -- just filling the hole seems like trouble enough.

That water feature is gorgeous. I second turning the space into a cohesive garden feature (with or without water). If it's difficult to reach this area of your home then planting is probably the simplest solution & the most environmentally friendly.
