will this front door and window placement work?
Comments (6)Hrm, have you read 'what not to build'? It's a great reference for things like this. Unfortunately I don't recall everything from my last read through it, but I do know that your ground level windows shouldn't have shutters as drawn - the shutters should easily be sized so that they could actually close over the glass, or be omitted altogether. Also, it appears you might have a few too many finishes - as I see brick, a different type of brick? and siding on your gables. As well, the little arched window on the house seems separate from the rest of the window styles, and so sticks out a bit. Do you need the shutters on the top row of 3 windows? I think it might look better without them?...See MoreAdvice/opinion regarding house placement, windows and natural light
Comments (48)Kbear- On your north facing windows, it is going to be the height of the window that limits your light admittance most. I'm guessing you meant 60 inches and not 60', right? :-) If your windows are 5 feet tall, the bay at 10 foot distance will be your only significant source of light in there. Afraid it will be a bit dark in there as you describe it. What is directly above your kitchen? These are solar tubes that bring in a ton of light all day. They run through an attic type space up to the roof....See MoreFarm house - floor and kitchen plans - you know you love this ;)
Comments (50)I think that this new layout give you some very custom features that would be unexpected in a modular home (things like that shelf that allows the inset fridge to make it look built in in the kitchen). I love the window placement in the rear of the house public spaces. I might consider moving the service / side door so that you are forced to go through the mudroom (encouraging a stop there...) and not necessarily having a straight shot out the hallway. Echo the concerns about the mudroom being too small, and passing through the mudroom to get to the laundry. HOWEVER - if there is a garage in the plan for the future - it would be an easy extension to convert a connector to a mudroom and then have the current combo room become all laundry (and separate the functions) Perhaps this was contemplated with the existing design, as I do see the "future garage" / driveway listed. There is really good privacy between the bedrooms here and good access to the full hall bath - I think that design element will really pay off for you in the long run. Looking good!...See MoreAdding another bedroom to our house. Window placement question.
Comments (20)This home is in South Florida near the coast hence the saferoom. Need help with the following: 1)Several comments state the closet is larger than it needs to be. How large should a bedroom closet be? 2)I'm inclined to make a change on the location of the windows towards one side of the wall or the other so the headboard will not be in front of a window. The bed would most likely be king-size. May do a murphy bed as the room will daily be used as a home office. Do not care that viewing from the outside, the windows are not centered. Care more about the placement of the furniture in the room. Where on the walls should windows be located? Heat and A/C drop will be in the ceiling. 3) Room will have a king bed or murphy bed, 1 or 2 nightstands, a wicker desk, and chair, and a tall cabinet with glass doors. Thank you in advance for any comments....See MoreRelated Professionals
