Baseboard with tiled wall and floor?
Comments (12)We have 16' of baseboard left over from when we installed beadboard in our Master Bathroom. I have three choice. We used 12 x 12 white tiles on the bathroom floor and are putting 6 x 3 white subway tiles on the walls with black tile on top for finishing. 1. Cut the 12 x 12 smaller and use them as baseboard 2. No baseboard and just start tiling with 6 x 3 tiles 3. Paint the beadboard baseboard either white or black and them continue to tile with 6 x 3 tiles. (does anyone like the idea of a black baseboard with this? The Vanitity is white beadboard look with black granit top....See Morefloor = tile, walls = painted; what baseboard?
Comments (17)Since I am the person in charge of the mop at my house, I am always looking for ways to make my job easier. I also do most of the interior painting and especially dislike painting baseboards. We just finished our master bath with a white marble-look ceramic tile. I requested the baseboard be replaced with the same tile as the floor. The tile was not exactly the same color all the way through body so we did not cut baseboard from the large tile, we used the 3"X12" trim pieces that match. I think it looks nice and gives the optical illusion of a larger floor. And I can mop all the way up to the baseboard without worry. When we had tile installed in our large kitchen (4 years ago), I had the tile run up under the toe kick of the cabinets for the same reason...for ease in mopping. The rest of the kitchen has wood baseboards. I do not think I have had any visitor notice and we entertain alot. For the larger kitchen which is open to our family room, I don't think I would consider tile baseboard because it would not match the rest of the open area. However I do like it very much in the small contained area of our master bath....See Morewall tile to floor tile junction - what to use?
Comments (3)Agree with above post. grout will work at the wall side but wall meets floor cracks nearly 100% of the time so matching colored caulk would be best there. joe...See MoreBaseboard heat and wall tile: what order to install?
Comments (2)I see the problem, since I've replaced numerous old and painted-over-a-million-times baseboard registers with nice new ones in my house. If you tile the wall first, then you have to drill through the tiles in order to screw or nail the registers into the studs. With space being valuable, I would tile down to the baseboard heat and then caulk. Worst case scenario, if it ever got replaced, one could always add maybe a border tile at the bottom to make up the difference....See Morelisase
