Comments (11)You've done a wonderful job . . . and I know that taking care of a new baby does NOT leave you much time for decorating! I especially love your table. It looks very conducive to great dinners and long chats afterwards with friends and family. Lynn...See More95% fininished makeover. Please help with other 5% (lotsa pics)
Comments (29)Sorry all. I just got around to taking more photos following some of your suggestions. Let me answer a few questions... I switched the old dining room rug with the one in my family room. The new rug is a dark brown background with ivory, gold, sage and pumpkin. The ceiling height was 9 ft. We determined the size we wanted the center rectangle to be, drew the dimensions on the ceiling and attached 2x4's along this line. He then attached 1x6's vertically to the sides of the 2x4's and then that was covered by the same crown that the dining room had previously. He then used a sheet of thin veneer and cut the pieces for the bottom of the beam which resulted in a slight reveal. Pipdog, you can come for dinner anytime. Just bring lots of photos of your beautiful family room. First I switched the plates thinking they might work better on opposites sides. Then I removed them completely, along with the hydrangea. I removed the shades from the sconces but they just aren't attractive (to me) without them so I put them back on. I didn't try it with the chandy but I will soon. I'll need to look for something new for the center of the table and the buffet. The mirror is just leaning on the buffet for now. It is meant to be hung horizontally so will need new hangers on the back before I can raise it. with the plates reversed... But here it is now.......See Moredining room makeover
Comments (9)Thank you for the pictures. I have a much clearer picture of your style. The bedroom is a very blue gray, and it is okay for bedrooms to be different, but I would be looking for a single wall color with a bit more warmth for the main part of the house, the dining room, kitchen, hallways and just have bedrooms bathrooms with different colors, but always colors that work with the neutral that you pick for the rest of the house. First thing I would do is prime the wall going toward the kitchen. Any color you put up on the dark gold beige wall is going to play off of that color and you can't really see what the color will look like. It is very difficult to pick colors from pictures on the internet. Colors render differently on each monitor and through each graphics card. From what I am seeing on my computer the first 4 colors I would try are SW Alpaca, Requisite Gray, Popular Gray and Versatile Gray. Paint samples on boards or order samples through https://samplize.com/ Look at the samples next to your back splash in the kitchen, in the bathroom and in your bedroom before taking them into the dining room. They don't have to match the other rooms, but they need to be pleasing next to the colors in the other rooms. Seeing the pendant lighting in the kitchen and the mirror in the bathroom I now understand why you selected the first Chandelier. I like that better than the second one, but I am still not sure how you do an off center table and a single centered light above the table. It may be fine. I actually have an off center light over my desk in my office and it looks fine and supplies the light where I need it. I would test the look with some aluminum foil over a balloon with a long string that I could tape to the ceiling. I am a visual person - need to see things in the space. You can play with your fake chandelier to determine the size and shape that you like best. I don't know where your at with renovations, but the only other thing that I would caution is that you don't want to have different flooring in every room. If you do have something different it should look intentional. Combinations of tile in the kitchen and bathroom, carpet in the bedrooms and wood throughout the rest look intentional. My last home had tile throughout the main area of the home, but the previous owners had put down 4 different tiles. I made it work by keeping the ceilings and walls throughout that area all the same so the different flooring just gave some variety and it still looked cohesive, but it made it more challenging to decorate. I also would not do the accent table. I think it would be very busy next to the flooring which is already strongly patterned....See MoreDining Room Makeover Ideas
