Plant growing inside of a burning bush?
Comments (5)It certainly doesn't sound like part of your shrub, but, without a picture, it's hard to know what it could be. The most common shrub with the common name "burning bush" is Euonymus alatus (formerly, Euonymus alata), so I'll guess that's what you have (the 7 shrubs around your house, not the oddball). My recommendation would be to consider removal of all seven shrubs, since Euonymus alatus is an environmentally-damaging invasive species in your state, and replacement with something better. Comments (7)i cant ID a plant.. from 10 or 15 feet away .. regardless ... you will know inside a month or two.. if it turns flame red ... invasive doenst necessarily mean.. its spawn only end up in your yard ... i have hundreds of seedlings from my neighbors plants .. every year ... if yours never colored.. then it probably isnt .. maybe the invasive privet.. lol ... get us a pic of the leaves with some stems.. and a scale ... perhaps a finger or something.. nothing fancy ... as a shrub guy.. you can do so much better.. for not much cost.. get rid of a plain old green plant.. and plant something new ... ken...See MoreBurning bush (tree form)
Comments (3)I just purchased 2 euonymous prarie radiance, tree form. It said on the tag 18-20' tall x18' wide. I placed them about 10' from each other. I had trouble finding much about them. Did find it's a relativly new cultivar. The leaves are a little longer and more slender than the standard burning bush. There were not too many leaves left on them when I purchased. I think they stem/trunk will be similar size as a serviceberry/tree form 4-5 width....See Moreeuonymus elatus 'compacta' - Dwarf Burning Bush
Comments (8)There are TONS of beautiful specimens of euonymus elatus compacta all over the Twin Cities and Wisconsin. I do occasionally see some that suffer some die-back (my new ones, included) or that get chewed on by the rabbits, but there are even more that look just beautiful. To me, this is a plant that's well worth having. I have a mature one by my front window and I so enjoy the birds that come to visit on it to pick who-knows-what from the bark even in the middle of the winter. I only wish the branches were strong enough for a feeder! Now that I know the rabbits like to chew on them, I will put some Fence-off, or what ever that's called, on them occasionally....See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
