Sources for lower priced Handmade tile look-alike?
Comments (3)I just took home some samples from Seneca Tile. The colors look a lot better than their website shows. The tile guy thought they ran around $20 SF which is still high IMO but better than others. Neither of us had time for him to look up prices so I am not sure on that price. They have a lot of sizes to choose from which is also nice. North Prairie Tileworks is another option - I think they are around $30 sf....See MoreWhat grout joint width on handmade subway tile?
Comments (2)The standard advice in the tile world is to measure a bunch of your tiles, and calculate the difference between the largest and smallest tiles. Multiply that difference by 3, and that is the mnimum width for grout. So if your tiles range from 5-7/8" to 6", the difference is 1/8", so make your grout be 3/8". This always seems quite conservative to me, that that is what the pros do....See MoreGreen subway tile? Especially vintage looking?
Comments (38)Update: the Mission West tiles were not the right shade of green. I also ordered some samples of the retro liners, which look great, except for this one issue: they're displayed in only one color combo online, so it didn't even occur to me to specify a color, and then lo and behold, the samples they sent me were completely different color combos that had nothing to do with my color scheme and thus did not help me at all. Then when I emailed to ask about that, the woman (Kate) said she had just sent what they had, and if I wanted to see a specific color I would have to pay for it and wait X weeks for it to come in. I asked if she could send me ANYTHING (even a 1"x1" or whatever) in the shade of red used on the liners I thought I had ordered (the samples that I got had no red in them). Y'know, being as how my range is red, and being as how I would want a liner that would go with the Depression-green field tile, I thought it would be a good idea to see what shade of red they use. But then I didn't hear a peep from her. And speaking for all of us who work in financial-related industries, I hope you appreciate the effort we have gone to in order to provide you with an actual Depression in which you can install them. Um... well, "appreciate" may not be quite the word I had in mind. :-)...See Morematte handmade 3x12 subway tile
Comments (24)I'm currently hunting for 3x3 arts & crafts tiles for my bath in matte finishes and have sampled a number of them so far -- check out Macintones at completetile.com (which are re-branded McIntyre Tile), also Seneca tile in OH is apparently starting up manufacture again soon. The Macintones are available in a zillion sizing & shape options and the matte finishes I have from them are subtle and gorgeous. Also: Winchester and Claysquared make nice matte finishes....See MoreRelated Professionals
