Nasty. I've never been officially diagnosed with migraines, so I just call mine "sick headaches," but I've never had to deal with anything as horrendous as what you described. I can't even imagine. I can give you some more input if you and your doctor decide you need medication, though. A couple of years ago, my psychiatrist prescribed Topomax for me as a mood stabilizer in addition to my other medications. I've been taking it ever since. The thing about Topomax is that its primary use is as a migraine preventer - mood stabilization is actually a side effect. I've only had two "sick headaches" since I started taking it. And as far as I know, Topomax doesn't have the potential for heart complications that Imitrex does. One of my co-workers had to go to the ER after a dose of Imitrex sent her heart into severe arrhythmia. As a first line of defense, my son's neurologist (he sees him for his ADHD) recommended Excedrin Migraine for his migraines, to be taken at the first indication of an aura. He says it works often enough to be worth trying at school if one comes on for him there. (We haven't had to put it to the test yet, so I can't give you firsthand information on results.) It might be worth keeping a small bottle in your purse, especially over Thanksgiving. I have the exact same symptoms as aussiesoni. My hot flashes happen once a month and usually only one time, but it lasts for about 15 minutes (although it seems longer). It is always in the middle of the night, around 2 a.m. I suddenly wake up kind of panicky, not knowing why, then shortly get a radiating heat in my chest which then spreads outward to my extremities and then my arms and legs tingle and I feel like I am going to pass out. I also get the feeling of extreme nausea and the need to have a bowel movement. I lay as still as I can, practice deep breathing techniques and reassure myself that I am ok and this will pass. It feels like a panic attack and I'm sure I am anxious at the onset. I am 44 years old and had a total hysterectomy 7 years ago. Initially I was on Progesterone, but my gynecologist switched me to Estradiol and I have been on that for 6 years. The hot flashes have been a recent development and the first few times I had one, I thought I needed to go to the emergency room. Finding this website was a Godsend and I know I am not alone! My question is, can anything be done or is this something that I'll just have to deal with? I also need to say that I have had a kidney transplant and because of the medications I take for that, I cannot take just any over the counter medication or herbal supplement in case it interferes with my anti-rejection medication. And not that I wish this on anyone else, but I am glad that I am not the only one experiencing this and grateful for your stories! Best wishes!!!

Yes it does. I am 63 - menopause hit at 57. But last year I started spotting so I called my doctor and I had to go for the water-drinking horrible ultrasound. It revealed a thickened uterine lining and small fibroids so I had to go to a gyno. She did the biospy in her office - it really hurt and she couldn't get much but fortunately just enough for the lab to check for cancer. There wasn't any. She prescribed 2 prometrium pills of 100 mg a day for 4 months and that took care of the problem. Jump forward to Sept. of 2013 and the spotting was back so once again the horrible ultrasound and then the biopsy in her office. Again she managed to get just enough - although she was doubtful. Had the lab not had enough of a sample to check for cancer I would have had to go into the hospital for a biopsy - I expected it would be by a local, much like a cysto - but no, you are put under. I am one of those who do not sedate well - it has the opposite effect. A local that should last 3 hours will last maybe 5 - 10 minutes at most. A doctor can put me under but I won't stay under for long. So I was grateful that I didn't have to have that done. In your situation I think the test is required. People think that I have a higher tolerance for pain than the normal person - I don't - I just know what is going to happen. Actually the gyno was very impressed that I didn't say boo on her table. I hope everything works out for you, but if you don't take the test and you do have a major problem you will kick yourself later. Despite knowing what would happen to me in the hospital I would have been there in a nanosecond - or however long it took for the gyno to arrange the test - I live in Canada so probably a year.

It is good he has his children.I was under the impression he was all alone. Not to bring up the hormone thing again,but men dont handle estrogen well.Men usually arent quite as emotional as women are,and maybe the hormones are making him emotional now (talking about his childhood,etc) My grandfather had serious crying jags while on estrogen. How long is he going to be on the treatment for his prostate cancer? Is there any way you could at least wait until he is done treatment? It may change how he is feeling significantly. Or,are you just saying you just dont feel in love with him at anymore? Either way,he may be better of emotionally if you waited until his treatment is over.For my grandfather it was several months.Now he is doing alot better being off the hormones. If he finishes treatment and is still this depressed and wont get help,then I guess there isnt much you can do for him. Since you arent married,legally you cant MAKE him get help either.Maybe his children could. Sorry I was so harsh.I wish you well,doesnt sound like an easy situation for all involved.
