Comments (19)Hey Annie, Thank you for the compliments, just got done looking are your roses and I would have to say the same! I got the carnations at Lowes I think a few years ago. I love them! They are my birthday flower and I was so excited to find them as I didn't think they would do well down here but then again those places tend to buy things that don't do well for the area. Turns out they have done wonderfully. I do remember you telling me about your daughter living in Columbia and your someday visit down here which I am still looking forward to! :O) Yes, it is too bad she doesn't live closer as I would love to help her out. Mabe when you do end up coming to visit her we can all meet up at the zoo. Then you could come down to visit Charleston. I have a membership to Magnolia Garden and Plantation and I could show you around there and have a picnic there perhaps, I love it there. Maybe you could bring your daughter too and we could have a nice time. July and August are hot and humid though so be prepared. So far it really hasn't been too bad heat wise. We have actually had a nice long cool spring with a few hot days lately but not too bad. Looking forward to your visit! Congratulations grandma! ~Meghan...See MoreMostly yellows with some pinks - (looong)
Comments (13)To All ~ Thanks to each one for your comments. I really didn't realize how nice Strike It Rich and Wild Blue Yonder were when I put them in the ground together. And I didn't think WBY was my type of rose when I bought it with a few others from J&P last year - but that is changing. The shape and color of this rose is very striking! madsud - Your mileage may vary on Wild Blue Yonder. I think it did well for me with some winter protection in my Z5 conditions. Growing roses is quite addicting. I like the challenge and labor of making them grow. Your success with the newer types of roses (ie. hybrid teas, floribundas, etc) will depend on some willingness to do what it takes in a colder zone to keep the rose robust/healthy. I winter protect, prune, fertilize, spray, etc, etc. This is the fun of it! I also like to take pics and bring bouquets to work. The residents really do love them!! That adds to the fun. Each person may have a different idea of what they enjoy about growing roses. Just because someone doesn't pamper their roses to death doesn't mean that they won't grow well! Give the roses you are interested in a try... Well, here I am writing a book...guess I better keep it from getting too long. Mark...See MoreSome blooms (mostly red white and 'blue')

Comments (27)So glad you like the roses, ladies. Kate, you made me laugh with your comparison of "our rocks". Did I mention that my "rock" extends about 80 feet, past the house into the back of the property? Never mind, your rock doesn't radiate nearly as much heat. Belle and Carol, the cupped roses you see all enjoy afternoon shade and I'm sure that's part of the reason. The other part is that it's not as hot now as it will be in the next four months. Carol, you need to write descriptions of roses for all the nurseries. Darn it, I keep forgetting to triple-post! It came naturally early on....See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
