Help! What color grout for black and white tile to look seamless?

I have a dilemma! I am installing black and white pattern floor in my bathroom. I have two questions. First the person who installed the tile did not match the tile perfectly. Are my expectations unrealistic? This is my first time getting a pattern floor. Second, I don't know what color grout to use help!!! I want it to look seamless Please help

Hmmm. They really screwed up the alignment. Is the whole room like that or just a few tiles? Anyway. It will never, nor should it, look seamless. They should look like pattened tile, not linoleum. I would do black grout which will look good AND be so much easier to clean! I regret my light grout choices.

I do see what you're saying and I'm particular too but I think it will be less noticeable in the context of seeing the entire space so I wouldn't worry about it. :)

I don't know what the sealer recommends for drying time before using it on the grout, but 9 times out of 10, when the sealer turns white, it's because there was moisture in the grout, and you're going to have a bi*ch of a time getting rid of it. I won't even go into the aversion I have to aerosol sealers to start with.

I'll definitely try to get a hold of a sample of Silver Shadow as I can see from responses here and posts elsewhere that it is quite popular. I'd still love to hear from anyone regarding Warm Grey, Smoke Grey and Mobe Pearl. How do they range in terms of light to dark? Which comes closest in tone to Misty Grey, which seemed like a good color, but too dark? I want to avoid any blueness (so don't think Platinum would work), while also steering clear of too much beige (Mobe Pearl?). Thanks for the comments so far!

I agree with the rest. If it were a checkerboard, that would be a different story. Black grout would be the thing-- either way-- black or white would look exactly the same, believe it or not. Black would be easier to keep up. but being that you have white tiles against white tiles, the black would be TOO much of a contrast. Go with a medium grey, something like Custom Delorean grey, or Mapei Pewter.

I'd do black floor, grey shower. A white or lighter grout WILL end up looking black'ish eventually in those high traffic areas. I can't tell you how many houses I looked at that had two toned grout; the high traffic areas had dark brown while the edges of the rooms would be light tan. You won't have to get down on your hands and knees with a toothbrush trying to clean the white/light grout saving your knees and back for years to come.

Are these cement tiles? If they are, they are hand made which may account for the variability? These are mine with light grout

are these cement or ceramic? if cement, are they sealed? and lets see the entire tiled area. I have black/white cement and did black,,,however, there is a catch to grouting cement tiles,,,that's why I'm asking. If they are ceramic, you're fine,,,do a dark charcoal or black

Thanks so much! In hindsight I would have picked a pattern with more variation or larger print. It looks busy. These are porcelain tiles not cement. Do you still think black or charcoal even if the tile is mostly white? Thanks for any advice!!!

I can see a compromised diamond shape along the seam. Also are my expectations unrealistic?

I think it looks fine. I would do black grout to match the black of the tile.

black. white grout will separate the 'pattern'. did you see my tiles? I used black. you can barely even see any grout, and I have more white on the tile than you do.

It looks to me like the tiles are aligned properly but the tiles themselves do not have a perfect repeating print. Since you've already said you aren't a huge fan and tile is so hard to rip up, I would use this as an excuse to return the tile. I would use black grout though. White grout will get yellow/brown with age and stand out. Black fades into the background and your eye skips over it.

The issue is the tile itself. You should have rejected it after you bought it and opened the boxes.

Installation constitites acceptance. You own it as is. Any changes at this stage are on you.

Grout should be the background color. Which is not s pure white, but an off white.

Invest in rugs.

I think it looks great and don't even see any problem, so I doubt many others will - especially since it's your floor! I agree with Beth H - do black.

Use a light grout color that matches the tiles best; as far as the installation, they used spacers, but perhaps the tile pattern itself may be not perfectly/symmetrically laid on the tile.
