My turn to ask the what-for-backsplash question :)
Comments (10)thanks for your thoughts and suggestions! I like the texture idea, especially the first two examples sweeby posted, though the practical me is looking at it and imagining all the random splatters of hot oil slowly accumulating in all crevices and thinking how in the world do you keep it clean??? the dark herringbone is nice too, the blue one ... I wouldn't risk putting something so strongly appealing to certain taste only. I thought the diagonal tile would add more interest but berryberry's horizontal layout is really appealing too. what tile is it? I am somehow hesitant about adding lines and lines of grout to maintain but maybe it's not such a big deal as I think it is. my budget on this is limited, so glass tile is out. some are nice but cost precludes them. overall, not really my style anyway so I'm not too sad. my first picks were all in the reddish terra cota family, the second try I did try to stay in neutral, but you are right, nothing really looks good. gosh ... search continues ......See MoreDo I Need BackSplash? Comments (27)Posted by budgeteer_s (My Page) on Wed, Dec 31, 08 at 18:18 Thanks for all your suggestions. I wanted so much to follow with ci_lantro's suggestion because then I'm done. I'll gladly let you snatch that paint brush out of my hand. ha ha. But at the same time if a little tiling will tie up the project, then I'm game. jodi_socal: I'm a little disappointed when you said fire and ice won't work. I just LOVE that F&I BS. But then agin, I think I know all along it's a little too much for my kitchen. Caryscott & petra: Thanks for the picture petra, it says a thousand words. Is spectralight glass tiles? Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. I will take some pictures and post two HD Behr's paint card to aid in the discussion of color. Thanks again ALL! Comments (28)Jeffrey court riverwash is very similar to fireclay foggy morning. My local tile store had both on hand, and they were *very* close. Fireclay comes in a wide range of sizes. It's pricey, but absolutely gorgeous. I was also shopping for a tile like this. My short list included Senio Newport in Alabaster Craquele or Transparent White. And my very favorite was an italian tile I hadnt heard of before... I cant remeber the manuf name, and my quote just says Aspen Loft Bianco in White. It was a white tile, but with an interesting finish, almost metallic. Looked so nice with my marble-esque quartz counters. All of these were in the $11/sqft range. Here is the aspen loft bianco -...See MoreHelp! Will this back-splash work?
Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See MoreRelated Professionals
