need a 60" vent hood for range AND blower for a commercial hood.
Comments (8)Proline are rock bottom priced Chinese made hoods that use 430 SS instead of the much more common and more expensive 304 SS. 430 SS uses less nickel therefore is a little darker and more prone to rust. You need a 60-66" hood with at least 1200 cfm. You will not find another company that sells cheaper. Maybe a new Chinese company selling something equivalent. In 2010-11 about 10 people on GW purchased Proline Hoods. Five were satisfied including one that was very satisfied and posted on every thread that mentioned Proline extolling the virtues of the hood. About three were unsatisfied with the lights. Either they were too dim or would not turn off. One got a free circuit board but got the run around about getting reimbursed for labor. Two had major problems. Not getting the right parts and another(if I remember correctly) too many holes drilled into the hood and duct cover. One complained to the better business bureau and the BBB closed the case with an unsatisfied rating saying the company never answered. This person would also post in any thread that mentioned Proline. The other just grew frustrated and posted so again and again. Eventually, people on here stopped buying Proline. But if you want something of better quality and reputation with the correct size and cfm you will have to spend significantly more. Do you want two remote blowers or just one for the outdoor hood? Fantech budget but kinda noisy remote blower. Probably not a good idea if you have neighbors close to your property line. Abbaka considered the best remote blowers. You have to maker sure blower is compatible with hood. If it is single speed I don't think they make those anymore. 3 Speed or Variable speed....See MoreNeed range hood suggestions - please!
Comments (2)no suggestions other than this not 1,000 - 1,200 cfm people don't realize that these size exhaust fans actually depressurize the house. not the intent of exhaust fans for stove at all. while these bigger fans are used in commercial applications, the venting includes both exhaust & supply air. with homeowner's installing commercial and oversized stove/ovens they still are not used like in commercial applications, unless you run a soup kitchen out of the house. chose wisely in exhausting air from the house, the make up air comes from holes in the building envelope (recessed lights for example) and is filtered through insulation, drywall and whatever is inside of the area of the leakage site. as we build houses more efficiently & tighter adding fresh air/make up air is being mandated by ventilation codes. while it is for HVAC to address the proper venting..few do. instead they ignore it, or push it off to installer of stove vent, bath vent etc. the V in hvac is for venting. best of luck....See Moreneed range hood suggestions
Comments (4)For a 36" range, you need a 42" hood. If possible, you want it to be deep enough front-to-back so that it overlaps the front burners. As a general rule of thumb, you need about 90cfm per sqft of hood size. So, to stick with these dimensions, you'll get on the order of 650cfm. You can obviously go higher to compensate for various inefficiencies. So, let's say you aim for a 1000cfm hood. They are all variable speed, so if all you do is boil a pot of water, you can dial down the power. But if you cook greasy food, you want the full power. At anything above 400cfm, many jurisdictions require that you install a make-up-air (MUA) system. If it gets cold where you live, you'll have to make sure it's a heated MUA system. That can get expensive. On the other hand, in other jurisdictions, they don't really care and you can get away with opening a window, whenever you use the hood. It's more labor-intensive, and it potentially is a serious safety issue, if you have other gas appliances. Carbon-monoxide backdraft is real. If you vent straight out, you probably want a hood with an internal blower. If you vent somewhere a little further away, there are things you can do to reduce blower noise. In-line or external blowers are great, same as in-line noise mufflers. As for brands, start looking at Modern-Aire, Vent-A-Hood, and Bluestar. There probably a couple of others, but this is a good starting point for high-quality and efficient hoods. Nothing is worse than buying a hood that makes a lot of noise and doesn't actually vent....See MoreLooking for a 30" black stainless range hood, any suggestions?
Comments (7)There is such a thing as black passivization for stainless steel (may depend on the alloy), but it might not be suitable due to susceptibility to fading in UV light, and not resisting acid fingerprints very well in my experience, and I would be surprised if it retained its look at weld lines. Maybe newer versions exist than I've observed in the past. "Con-Tact" paper might be better; it could be changed with the seasons....See MoreRelated Professionals
