Poll: Celeb names on products yay or nay?
Comments (45)Luckygal, branding has been around for a very long time. For example: Vernon and Irene Castle slapped their names on everything and anything you can imagine and stuff that you can't from candy to cigars, shoes, records etc. This was back in 1912. They were the pair that put ballroom dancing on the map and made it extremely popular. Irene set many fashions trends in her day including the incredibly ugly but very popular stove top hat and was one of the first to bob her hair setting off a new look for hair in the 1920's flapper. They owned nightclubs and dance studios. The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers dancing that we all recall fondly in their old movies was based on Vernon and Irene's innovations in dance. My kids (aged 30 and 26) are not swayed by such nonsense and neither are their friends. I think there has always been (and always will be) people who feel safer purchasing something endorsed by a "name" and others who look for quality, value and style. Comments (23)During the warm weather I would consider replacing your welcome mat with a larger rug, I wouldn't worry about cleaning. Outdoor rugs are basically a big piece of patterned plastic. Yes, you may have to shake it out or hose it off. For me, being able to enjoy something special on my porch would be worth a few extra minutes of cleaning. i think a runner will emphasize the narrow shape of the porch. A 5 by 7 in front of the door will make a nice focal point....See MoreHand-tufted rugs - yay or nay?
Comments (11)Cyn - That's what I was afraid of, although I have no pets. I have the 2x3 positioned in front of the entry door so the next 4 weeks should help determine whether or no it's ill fated given there will be a couple more contractors in and out, then a scad of movers, deliveries, etc....See MoreArea rugs? Comments (12)I love your floors! I have dust allergies and cleaning a rug beneath a bed is difficult, therefore -- I have wood floors (and tile) throughout my house. I have a large 9x12 wool rug in my guest bedroom (for a queen size bed) -- but, only because it was in my dining room in my previous home and was expensive enough that I didn't want to part with it. In my master bedroom, I have a rug on the floor at the foot of my king bed. It may break decorating rules, but the only reason I have any rug in my bedroom is because my poodle can't jump off the bed onto the hardwood without sliding. It's a safety issue for her. In a warm climate (like yours), I don't see the need for rugs. But, if you want to warm it up, the Pro from Ethan Allen has given good visual decorating tips....See MoreLars/J. Robert Scott
