Thanks so much for the feedback and help everyone. I am going to try 50% white dove, 50% atrium white and I'll report back on the color. Hopefully it will be helpful to others. This is for the upstairs bedroom ceilings. I may get more adventurous with the ceilings downstairs. I understand the trend, Pattycakes. I don't want to be out of date; I know white ceilings are somewhat boring and unimaginative, but I think they will never go completely out of style, sort of like white kitchen cabinets. There are some rooms that just need the light. I do appreciate knowing that the trend is towards color on the ceilings and will definitely consider that in the other parts of the house.

Start by priming the gold walls with white or gray primer. The gold reflections will distort the colors of new paint samples. Then change the odd-looking light bulbs to whatever LEDs you are going to use. Paint a foamcore board with the Kilim Beige, then hold it up next to the countertops. The new paint needs to coordinate with the countertops, the flooring and the cabinets. One shade lighter than Kilim Beige on the same color card is worth a good long look. Since the countertops are beige, too, they are likely to be the driver here. Cara Lewis-Watt's pale greens can be sampled on the same foamcore board. Both the SW and BM "Sea Salt" colors are quite versatile. That'd get you out of having to identify the "perfect" off white/beige that goes well with everything else.

They are wonderful here too Kris. I was there just the other day and they were working so hard to accommodate everyone through all of this! Nothing is as good as seeing the color in your own space under your own lighting conditions! Even if you have to buy a fan deck it’s worth the investment for now and the future!

And we have a cat named Bella, which would be a strange reason to paint our whole house Bella Blue, but still... ;) @cat_ky, thanks for the input on the reddish trim. It's funny, my husband hates it but I have liked it. (We bought the house this way so did not select the colors.) @Circus Peanut, thanks for these suggestions. I will check out Bunglehouse Blue on the visualizer. @Greta Greite, what would be your first choice? We don't want something completely neutral like tan or gray. Our street is very eclectic - lots of grays and tans but here and there there's a bright teal house, a dark red house, a yellow house, etc. @Angela Tollefson, I'm excited to check out Newburg Green. I would've been misled by the "green" in the title (just like "Gentleman's Gray" is actually blue, it seems). @Sabrina Alfin, I love the ideas about boxing out the posts. The paint altogether came off of the cedar as it is, so it's only a matter of time before that happens once we repaint. Thank you, all! And if others have more ideas, too, I'm happy to hear them.
