Rose placement , make up my mind for me
Comments (6)I'm just north of DFW airport in Coppell. It is hard to post pictures and have you actually see/understand the whole thing. :) The biggest problem is accessing the amount of sun light due to the trees and the way the sun travels across. I have very little area that gets a full 6 hours of direct sun, actually only one spot gets that and there are existing shrubs to work around. (which can not be moved or changed) Everything else gets about 4 hours of morning sun. Or 4 to 5 hours of HOT afternoon sun, its next to a stone patio that absorbs and reflects the heat and is a pretty narrow bed. I'm not good at figuring out how wide plants are going to get and the beds are not all that big. I've done the research on each rose. It helps but still, my skill at determining how the plant is actually going to look there just isn't very good. I do not have the option of making the skinny beds bigger. I'll try to get some pictures up in the gallery in the next few days and detail what kind of sun each portion gets. Here's the list of roses that I'm hoping will provide me with some blooms and fragrance this summer: 1 honey bouquet: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/rosesgal/msg1123091823018.html?5 2 Golden Showers (climbing) http://www.rose-roses.com/rosepages/climbers/GoldenShowersMore.html Double Delight (already planted) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/470/index.html 2 of red Blaze: (already planted) http://www.growquest.com/rose%20section/climbing%20blaze_climbing_rose.htm http://www.veseys.com/ca/en/store/roses/climbingroses/climbingroses/blazerose 2 of Mr. Lincoln: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1057/index.html 2 of Sun Sprinkles: (these I've got in pots on the front porch) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/65054/index.html As if those weren't enough, I did it again... I bought another rose. I need it like I need another hole in my head! (but I didn't have any white ones yet...so I guess I really did need this one) Iceberg: http://www.mooseyscountrygarden.com/rose-garden/iceberg-roses.html...See MoreUgh! Why can't I make up my mind?
Comments (12)All good advice. I just wasn't ready to shop for a new master bedroom set since we have plans to redo our masterbath and likely will recarpet etc the master bedroom but not right away. I bought a very nice quality set and it has stood the test of time. @LES917: I am in love with Walter E Smithe. Haven't been there in years. I really walked around saying I like that and that and that. My husband went too and appreciated being able to see and sit and touch and feel which we hadn't been able to do with a decorator. Turned out the man who helped us with the store general manager and senior designer. You get special treatment when you show up at 10am on a Monday morning. The store was ours. @karinl: yes, it isn't a matter of the money really this time it is what to do, and do ONCE. I think I am just tired of looking at the guest room waiting for me to finish it. It's been painted and crown molding installed since April. I will admit I prefer the bedroom pieces to match. Nowerdays even within the same collection there are variations in pieces. I don't want to spend time coordinating things from this or that collection. I am old school I guess (even at 41!)....See MoreCountertops! Can't make up my mind!
Comments (23)marti8a, I'm not a granite fan either, and I'll say it out loud. :-) There are factors other than durability which bother some people, factors which might also be true for you. I had it in my previous kitchen and found it too loud and clanky. It's way too cold on winter mornings before the heat kicks in (I live in Maine). Also, mine was polished and, aesthetically, I dislike that kind of coffee-table surface in a working kitchen. And speaking to what might have been your real worry about tipping that little glass bottle, I was indeed forever breaking water glasses on the sink cutout overhang or by just dropping them. So folks needn't obsess on the friend/food coloring story; there are many quite legitimate reasons someone might not choose stone beside the staining issue. :-) That said: Marti, what do you like best of the surfaces you've seen/experienced? If you love metal but think stainless is too modern for your vision, have you considered pewter, zinc or copper? Any of these can be very cottage-vintagey. (Full disclosure for this bias: I have copper countertops.) And stainless really IS authentic for the early 20th century, in case that's a worry. Best of luck!...See Morehelp me make up my mind!!!
Comments (12)OK, you've convinced me! Thank you all! Actually I really would enjoy going in person with my DH, but he's not into gardening and frankly ,this is an extremely busy time in our lives. We both could so use a "lovely four day trip" like mariannese had with her DH,but I'm afraid it ain't going to happen for a while, alas; he's got so many irons on the fire, and so do I. I'm not a confident driver. I've never driven on a busy highway here in Italy; I did a bit of highway driving way way back when I was a girl, but my dad was sitting right beside me! So it's not that I can't do such a drive, it's just that the idea is a real challenge and when I ever do take such a step, I want to have someone with me. Many other drivers are extremely competitive, for example, and that really rattles me: the other cars streaming all round, being obliged to go fast, worrying that my own anxiety would cause me to drive in a way that would put others as well as myself in danger, etc. Another drawback: I don't have a navigator or any such thing in my car,and am lousy at reading maps,so that would just add to the anxiety problem. And the fact is nobody gives you gas for free. Sure, it wouldn't cost 25 euros to drive there, but adding everything together,I think it's worth it....See Moreac91z6
