Plant suggestions for planters lining patio
Comments (2)It's too bad you lost so many hostas - they really look nice in the photo. Planting perennials/shrubs above ground level in a raised bed can be a tough call given that your bed is only 18" wide. The root structure may be freezing too solid without any type of insulation (soil) on either side. I don't think, though, that it's a lost cause. I'd certainly attempt Bergenia and Lady's Mantle in there. Bergenia would have the benefit of being semi-evergreen, has early growth and nice fall colouring. It blooms early (mine is blooming now). Lady's Mantle frothy yellow blooms last a long, long time and would spill (a much nicer word for flop) over the logs. I have Lady's Mantle planted right next to where I tie up one dog on occasion. She is merciless with that planting and it survives without a hiccup. Lamium could be another option, as well as Solomon's Seal. Did the ferns survive? If they did, they may eventually take over the whole bed - if they like a spot they can be quite vigorous. On the other hand, I have tried to grow ferns unsuccessfully 3 times and I'm throwing in the towel - I'll just salivate with envy at everyone else's ferns that seem to grow with wild abandon....See Moremini split ac system suggestions and pricing
Comments (1)I'm thinking of one for an upstairs room. about 1 ton (12,000 BTU). What prices are you getting? Mitsubishi is supposed to be the best. There's also LG....See MoreWhat are my options here? Ugly planter...(see 3 photos)
Comments (12)I'm so glad the picture helped! Personally, I would not suggest plantings that overcrowd the area since you have two windows above it. There is not a lot of space from the planter bottom to the sill, so keep plantings height potential to around ~2'. If you are drawn to a clean & zen appearance, keep the plantings consistent thru the whole planter. Grasses are available in many heights. If this is a direction you might like to go, I would suggest for your to search for ornamental grasses that thrive in your zone. Narrow down options by looking at desired height, color, & maintenance. Unfortunately, I would only be guessing if i was to advise on drainage considerations. Since you have had a previous problem of puddling, I would think that a top layer of gravel could help. Good luck !...See MoreLooking for 3 mini hostas for this 3 part ceramic planter I made.
Comments (21)I actually tried several and didn't really like the ones that I had planned, so it became quite a shuffle. I moved a division of Church Mouse in. This had outgrown a shallower planter I had made 4 years ago. I had bought School Mouse and Pandora's Box in clearance in fall 2019 for this planter. I did use the School Mouse, but the Pandora's Box was all wrong in terms of scale. So I divided my old Cracker Crumbs, and put a section of that in. That's not right either, but I needed to fill the space til I find the right thing. I want a gold: but SHORT leaved and wavy, which I have not found. I pulled a couple of leaves from other golds I already have to hold them up for scale, like Dragon Tails and Munchkin Fire, and those weren't right either....See More
