Sub Zero Pro 48 or side by side 48

We really love the look of the Pro 48 with the deeper shelves and stainless inside but its about $4000 more than the sxs48. Is it worth it?

Think about it this way, three years from now, are you going to regret the $4k, or are you going to regret getting a different model. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. You have to decide that yourself.

$4k is a good chunk of money that could buy you another nice appliance, or that could pay for a vacation. You can splurge once or twice in your remodel, but probably not every single time; so, spending money on the fridge might mean you have to cut some other nice-to-have feature.

On the other hand, you'll probably have your fridge for 20 odd years, and you'll use it every single day. If it gives you enjoyment each time you use it, then that could very well justify the extra expense.

The pro 48 is the ultimate refrigerator, if you love the look, then it's worth it.
If I had a huge kitchen and the room for it, I'd get the pro 48... or separate towers.

That refrigerator is a work of industrial art. I would buy it for looks alone. You would have to plan on a kitchen with a big stainless pro style range and simple, high quality finishes.

It reminds me of the mid-80s when people first started putting pro ranges in their kitchens (by people, I mean very few people of course, not your average 80s kitchen- but the folks with Garland ranges that had not been made for household use.)

I was just at expo today and saw the subzero and the Liebherr 48" fridges. The subzero was almost $13 and the Liebherr was almost $8. i actually prefered the Liebherr over the Sub but mostly for asthetic reasons(and some functional). The sub had space for large items in the freezer while the Liebherr had drawers which would make it hard for me to store my extra turkey at Christmas time. I liked the top of the Liebherr for the beverages on the right side and the way the rest of the fridge storage space was set up. The door hinges are also really nice and the door wasn't as heavy. I liked the freezer better on the sub and the fridge better on the Leib, I guess. Didn't like expo at all. Salesman knew squat....had to go the the computer to answer any ?'s and gave wrong info when he did answer on his own. Go figure?

Kenmore Pro or SubZero Built-in 48

I am looking to get a 48" built-in SBS refrigerator/freezer with a door dispenser (little kids serve themselves). It looks as though there is a Kenmore Pro model that has the duo compressor/duo coil setup as does the SubZero. Anyone know about these or have recommendations? I looked at the Miele, but it's over $10K and mainly the benefit seems to be the ability to not keep them SBS, which we will do anyway. GE Profile has a duo coil option with a single compressor...as useful? I'd love advice on this purchase. Thanks!

We are looking for a 30" built-in fridge for our kitchenette, and seem to have narrowed it down to: Sub-Zero BI-30U Miele KF 1811 SF Liebherr C 1651 Unfortunately, I can not find the prices online for neither Miele nor Sub-Zero, but Liebherr is quoted at about $4800. I'm sure, the others will be more... Sub-Zero, actually, has one feature going for it (besides being American-made) Â the compressors are on the top. This means, that while being the same height, more of the usable interior is reachable to a short person. My significant other is 5' tall, so this is a concern... But if it is as hard to open as comments suggest ("shoulder dislocation" is already mentioned here), then she may prefer Liebherr anyway, and just surrender the top shelf to me... Miele is an enigma, though Â any feedback on that? Thanks! Yours, doofus

A SubZero, if not horribly abused, should last for decades. Since you've already jumped over the money hurdle, that shouldn't be a biggie, and by having the unit for so long, you'll skip the remodelling expenses of replacing it. You've already also agreed to the space involved You've already decided you like the divisions, or you wouldn't have chosen it. I ended up with Miele and a Marvel u/c drawer fridge. I LOVE the drawers, and I love that the bottom section of the Miele is all drawers, so I think you'll really enjoy those. Be thoughtful how you use them. For instance, if you have kids always opening the fridge, you can put snacks and drinks for them in one drawer and have them only opening one section. Con: having to keep the fridge tidy enough to be on display constantly. I'm often embarrassed to have a cousin or friend opening my fridge because I have bunches of kale sitting on the milk, and stuff like that. Pro: You can see what you're looking for before you open the door of the main cooler, keeping the cold in more. Smeary hands on the stainless and glass? That's true no matter what the materials are, so it depends on your tolerance for things looking anything but out of the carton pristine. Pro: If something unexpected comes up and you have to move, you can take it with you because it's freestanding. Con: Stuff can roll underneath because it's freestanding. Really, though, it's a SubZero. What's not to love?

No shelves in the doors of the Pro. Will that bother you? If I had the budget, I'd get separate towers like Cookncarpenter said.

I actually like having a fridge that doesn't impose a particular type of organization on me. We have a commercial refrigerator in the garage. It's essentially just a big rectangular stainless steel box with adjustable shelves. So, in many ways it is very similar to the Pro 48. We love it. We bought a bunch of plastic crates/boxes to add organization, as appropriate for our use cases. Takes getting used to; but once you do, it's hard going back. The one thing we noticed though was that we had to buy one extra shelve, as commercial fridges are optimized for bulkier items. Sounds as if that wouldn't be a problem with the Pro 48.

If money isn't a problem, and if there is sufficient space in the kitchen, then I can see the Pro 48 being a great refrigeration option. If space is more critical, then split into two separate towers, or into a tower and some drawers.

We have the 48" side by side and love it? Re the pro; do you really want to be looking at your food through glass doors?

We don’t mind that there are no shelves on the door since the overall capacity is still larger. You can also get the fridge without the window. But I don’t mind the window it not a full one and I like the look and either way with or without window there still are no shelves on the door.

Consider it a design choice- is this refrigerator's look worth the cash. Only you know how important an element it would be in your kitchen and how you value the money right now. For me, that refrigerator does not work in my kitchen, though I love its beefy, industrial look.
