Comments (1)Pics are small, but could just be from grabbing and throwing it off the truck. If they are dead, they're dead and should be cut out. Forget fert spikes as they are nearly useless and unless something is known to be lacking in the soil I wouldn't use ferts at all. tj...See MoreProblem with Colorado blue spruce
Comments (46)I have never posted, but thanks for the answer. I bought the tree in December 2011 and covered the pot with bags I had of mulch. When summer arrived, I had to go away for a month so it never got planted until July. My husband added 2 gallons of water everyday until I came home to plant it. I don't like anyone in my flower beds, but me. I will look for another small tree to plant in front of it. I did plant the ball last year with some Myke. I hope that helped it. My ground is very damp. I put my hands down there last week when it was very warm here in Ottawa. The nursery who sold me the tree, said to leave at least 2-3 inches of the crown out of the ground. Otherwise I cannot get air to the roots. I am new at this, so I am looking for some experienced people who can help me. Thanks for the info....See MoreRe-branching of Colorado spruce
Comments (10)i have seen such things that 'shouldnt happen' ... i would suggest that overly broad statements of what will NEVER happen .. is the problem ... i suppose it would be better to cut our odds and say that 99% of the time such shouldnt happen.. but who knows what curve ball mother nature will throw at us ... the usual comments about what will or wont happen.. is related to neophyte conifer peeps who want to drastically trim improperly planted/sited plants.. that are too close to the foundation ... and in such circumstances ... we always say.. they will not re-branch ... and that remains the correct answer for said questions ... but weirder things have happened ... i think i typed what i meant .. lol ken...See MoreTanuki Style (Colorado Blue Spruce Deadwood + Juniper) ?
Comments (7)Alright, don't laugh.... it doesn't look like much right now: another view: and yes my wonderful wiring is done using twist ties. I first had to roughly place each juniper branch close to the deadwood, let the plant settle and see if it will live. Later on I can get the live branches trimmed down and sitting more snug and spiraled, perhaps Dremmel out a groove in the deadwood if I see it necessary. I'll dig up some more photos, you can't really see it here but the base of that Colorado Blue Spruce Trunk is a good 5" thick. Basically I figure in several years this might become much more interesting and I'll want to lift the whole thing up, maybe treat the deadwood to stop it from decomposing and secure it with some kind of fixture. So yeah, that's my "Phoenix Graft" for now....See MoreRelated Professionals
