Best insulators for window treatments?

I have a south facing window that has blinds and sheers. I'm thinking of changing the window treatments My cat "pulls" the sheers and side drapes, so I'm thinking about putting plantation shutters there. Would they insulate better or about the same as the blinds I have right now?

Not sure they would insulate better unless they were more air tight. If you are looking for insulation, cellular shades are usually the best assuming they are tight fitting. That or heavy drapes.

Maybe I'll try switching the blinds for cellular shades, and see how that is. I assume heavy drapes are more expensive. Plus my cat likes to "pull" the fabric with her claws, so I'll avoid them. I "knotted" them up, to make it more difficult for my cat to get to. I think cost is why the previous owners only put drapes on the side. I think the side drapes are silk. They look nice, but might be expensive to replace.

Plantation Shutters would be a great option on those windows. Determining inside vs. outside mount is going to be based upon multiple factors: Do you window tilt in? Do you have enough depth for the panels to mount? Do you have enough depth for the louvers to open? These are all kinds a professional shutter company can determine if you have someone out for an estimate. Most of the stuff we do these days is outside mount because of tilt in windows or lack of depth in the opening.

I would do some blinds on the bottom and leave the arch since this is a play room make sure the blinds have no cords.

The height of your panels works for the room, leaving the arched top window to be a view to the sky. Is there a reason to go higher? if so you can do an arched to set of panels or top treatment. Please keep in mind that you have at least 1 more window in that spacey and if you do a higher treatment on that window it may bring down the height of the room and be unbalanced with the other window(s). I agree that shades inside mounted would look good if you need light blockage, and I prefer to have panels out further to each side exposing more of the glass. .....Did that help any?
