We are planning a complete remodel of the house and plan to live there for a few years and then resell it. My husband does work on the inside and I know we can make that beautiful. However, we have never had to remodel the outside of any of our homes to any great extent. I would like it to have great curb appeal to help when it comes time to sell. We do love having the covered front porch as there is a beautiful view of a mountain from it. The reason I feel I need to paint the brick is because of the addition just coming out from the side of the house. If it was going to be in the back I wouldn't mind as much to make it vinyl. The back of the house is also brick. My original thought was to paint a light gray, leave the shutters black, the trim white and have a dark gray or black metal roof. But I am also thinking it might look nice to paint the brick off-white, change the columns and the shutters to a stained wood but not sure what color metal roof yet. After seeing the comments on here, I am definitely having second thoughts about the dormers. I was really unsure about them and having a hard time visualizing what they would look like. There is a usable attic, but we did not have plans of finishing that space right now. We also do plan to add landscaping in the spring. I really appreciate all the suggestions . Does anyone know of a program or website where I can make these changes and see what the house would look like? Please keep the comments coming as this is really helping. Thank you

Your house is cute! I don't think it needs much, but 1) I do agree with the comment that the shutters should look like they could actually cover the window. 2) I also agree that the gable could blend with the brick color more. 3) I think your yard will make the biggest difference in the curb appeal. Here's an illustration I found online -- it's so similar to your house and shows that your house won't need a lot of work to be charming!

This is not a craftsman style house and No room.] - Enlarge the window above the garage (this is the main bedroom) by doing a cut down enlargement. [yes!!] - New shutters (not sure what colours) [no shutters. Shutters are dated except for a couple styles of home.] - Replace the garage door (again, colours are a ??) - Maybe window box planters underneath the other front windows. [no. Too high maintenance. A bed w good for season interest will get you more than boxes. They don’t look good year round]. - New door [color statement] - New garage door and garage light - Change up the landscaping a bit...no idea how though [what is sun for front yard? approximate growing zone?] - Add a lamp post maybe [no!]

The concrete planter around your tree is an interesting (and assumedly original?) feature, but nothing else in your landscape “talks” to it so to speak. With midcentury homes I think ‘poured-in-place’ concrete always looks good— it’s not that different from your paver idea, just at a more appropriate scale & function. Here’s a really bad rendering done with a fat thumb on my phone, but the gist would be to have larger rectangular concrete sections (could be gravel or grass in between) that abut your concrete planter, and having those surrounded by some nice native grasses with a another planted section in the middle, and then echo those same plants in your raised concrete planter around tree). Neat house!
