Corner kitchen sink, large subway tile back splash & possible shelving

I'm using 16" X 4" white subway tile in the small kitchen (very small kitchen!). Where the light blue sticky's are (side of sticky closest to the corner on each side) is where the cabinets on each side will stop so there's a decent area that will just be backsplash going to the ceiling. I'd love feedback on the tile work---keep it the same in the whole kitchen--typical staggered or? I'm thinking just keep it uniform OR just go 18 inches up the walls all the way around the kitchen and then painting the wall in this corner a taupe (that matches the rest of the house). There will be a black pendant. Also, I'd like to put floating rustic shelves on the walls here...either 2 on one side and one on the other or 2 each, on both sides, top/bottom in a uniform manner. OR no shelving but would use high/low decor behind the sink and leave corner walls plain. Would appreciate feedback quickly as I need to make decision soon. Also, pendant is going to be moved closer to where sink will end up going.
